Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "A valid pause: on RBI holding rates"
- Valid - reasonable and generally accepted
- Wisely - in a way that shows experience, knowledge, and good judgement
- Stance - an opinion about something, esp. one that is publicly expressed
- Calibrated - measured and careful
- Easing - the action or process of making something less severe or difficult
- Inflation - an economic process in which prices increase so that money becomes less valuable
- Slowdown - a period when there is less activity
- Momentum - progress or development that is becoming faster or stronger
- Prompt - to make someone decide to say or do something
- Projection - a calculation of the way that something will change and develop in the future, especially of how fast it will grow or become smaller
- Collapse - the sudden failure of a system, organization, business, etc
- Crude - oil from rocks underground in a natural state that has not yet been treated
- Tumble - if a price or value tumbles, it suddenly becomes much lower
- Forecast - a statement about what is likely to happen, based on available information and usually relating to the weather, business, or the economy
- Foresee - to see or know something that will happen in the future
- Enduring - lasting for a long time
- Hover around - to be at or near a particular level without changing much
- Stand pat - to refuse to change a decision or the way you do something
- Bolster - to make something stronger or more effective
- Household - the people who live in a house or flat when they are considered as a single unit
- Outlook - an idea about what a situation will be like in the future
- Prognosis - a statement about what is likely to happen in a particular situation
- Tailwind - a wind that blows in the same direction in which a vehicle is moving
- Justifiably - if something is justifiable, there is a good reason for it
- Opt to - to make a choice or decision from a range of possibilities
- Keep the powder dry - to be prepared to act with little advance notice
- Remit - a particular area of work that someone is responsible for
- Wary - careful or nervous about someone or something because you think they might cause a problem
- Uncertainty - a nervous feeling that you have because you think bad things might happen
- Reckon - to have a particular opinion about someone or something
- Volatile - a volatile situation can suddenly change or become more dangerous
- Perishable - perishable food decays after a short time, especially if it is not kept cold
- Hazy - not clear
- Flare-up - becomes worse
- Impact - an effect, or an influence
- Buttress - to make someone or something stronger by supporting them in some way
- Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
- Cautionary - warning someone that they should be careful
- Fiscal - relating to money and financial matters, especially taxes
- Slippage - a situation in which something is delayed or not achieved when it should be
- Crowd out - to become stronger or more successful than another group so that they fail or can no longer compete with you
- Bolster - to make something stronger or more effective
- Macroeconomic - relating to the economic system of a whole country or large region
- Prudence - the state of being careful in the way you make decisions or spend money so that you avoid unnecessary risks

- Adverse - negative, unpleasant, or harmful
- Stronghold - a place where people fighting an enemy can defend or organize themselves

- Setback - a problem that delays or that stops progress or makes a situation worse
- Assertion - a definite statement or claim that something is true
- Sovereignty - the right to rule a country
- Insist - to say very firmly that something must happen or must be done
- Defend - to protect someone or something from attack
- Concerned - worried about something
- Long-standing - having existed for a long time
- Dispute - a serious disagreement, especially one between groups of people that lasts for a long time
- Escalate - to become much worse or more serious, or to make something do this
- Jeopardise - to risk damaging or destroying something important
- Precarious - likely to change or become dangerous without warning
- Leverage - the power to make someone do what you want
- Congratulatory - offering congratulations
- Diplomatic - relating to the profession or skill of preserving or creating friendly relationships between countries
- Consequent - happening as a result of something
- Downgrading - to treat something in a way that shows that you think it is now less important than it was
- Predictably - if something is predictable, it happens in the way that you would expect
- Angered - to make someone feel angry
- Meanwhile - at the same time
- Neighbour - someone who lives near you
- Allege - to say that something is true or that someone has done something wrong or illegal, even though this has not been proved
- Marred - spoiled
- Meddling - to become involved in a situation that you have no right to be involved in, in a way that is annoying
- Funnell - to supply money or goods to a person or organization, not directly but by using another person, organization, or system
- Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
- Overt - not hidden or secret
- Covert - secret
- Echo - to express the ideas or feelings that someone else has expressed
- Referendum - an occasion when everyone in a country can vote to make a decision about one particular subject
- Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
- Status quo - the present situation, or the way that things usually are
- Rivalry - a situation in which people, teams, businesses etc compete with one another
