- Slippery slope - a problem or situation that is getting worse and will become extremely bad unless it is stopped
- Diversify - to develop into something different
- Proactive - taking action by causing change and not only reacting to change when it happens
- Fortune - money and success
- Fluctuate - to change frequently
- Gathering - a group of people meeting together
- Prominent - important and well known
- Urge - to advise someone very strongly about what action or attitude they should take
- Aid - help with doing something
- Review - the process of studying or examining a situation, policy, or idea again in order to decide whether it is suitable or satisfactory
- Ease - to make or become less severe, difficult, unpleasant, painful, etc
- Import - to buy a product from another country and bring it to your country
- At stake - likely to be lost or damaged if something fails
- Notably - especially: used for introducing a good example of something
- Opt - to make a choice or decision from a range of possibilities
- Boost - to help something to increase, improve, or become more successful
- Significant - very large or noticeable
- Rival - a person, team, or business that competes with another
- Policymaker - a member of a government department, legislature, or other organization who is responsible for making new rules, laws, etc
- Steer - to influence the way that something happens or the way that people behave
- Headwind - a wind that blows in the opposite direction to the one in which you are moving
- For one - used for emphasizing that someone is thinking or behaving in a particular way, even if other people are not
- Current account deficit - the amount by which money going out of a country through imports, investment, and services is greater than money coming into the country
- Widen - to increase
- Domestic - relating to the country being talked about, and not other countries
- Adversely - in a way that is harmful or likely to cause problems
- Shot through the roof - to increase quickly to a very high level
- Weigh - to have an important effect or influence
- Prospect - the possibility that something will happen, especially something good
- Scenario - a situation that could possibly happen
- Marginally - by only a very small amount
- Consumer - someone who buys and uses goods and services
- Steep - sudden and very big
- Fiscal - relating to money and financial matters, especially taxes
- Framework - a set of principles, ideas etc that you use when you are forming your decisions and judgments
- Diversify - to develop new products or activities in addition to the ones that you already provide or do
- Geopolitical - connected with political activity as influenced by the physical features of a country or area, or with the study of the way a country's size, position, etc. influence its power and its relationships with other countries
- Wean off - to make someone gradually stop depending on something that they like and have become used to, especially a drug or a bad habit
- Reliance - the state of depending on a particular person or thing

- Evidence - facts or physical signs that help to prove something
- Fiancée - your fiancée is the woman you are engaged to and are going to get married to
- Several - a number of people or things that is more than two or three, but not many
- Doing the rounds - passing from one person to another
- Horrifying - extremely shocking
- Draw something from something - to get something from a particular place
- Dismember - to cut or pull someone’s body into pieces
- Disposal - the process of getting rid of something
- Intelligence - a government organization that collects information about the secret plans and activities of a foreign government, enemy etc
- Forensic - relating to the use of scientific methods to solve crimes and to find out who committed them
- Carry out - to do a particular piece of work, research etc
- Assassination - the murder of a famous or important person, especially for political reasons
- Thereafter - after a particular time that has been mentioned

- The burden of proof - the responsibility of proving that something is true in a court of law
- Credible - able to be believed or trusted
- Backer - someone who gives help or money to a plan or organization
- Severe - very serious
- Controversy - a disagreement, especially about a public policy or a moral issue that a lot of people have strong feelings about
- Reformer - someone who works to change and improve something
- Big-ticket - expensive
- Investor - a person who puts money into something in order to make a profit or get an advantage
- Address - a formal speech given by someone to a group of people, especially as part of an important occasion
- Ally - a country that makes an agreement with another country that they will work together to help each other, especially in a war
