- Ledger - a book that contains the financial records of a business
- Deepening - increasing
- Defence - the system of weapons, equipment, and people that is used to protect a country
- Significant - very large or noticeable
- Inaugural - an inaugural event is the first of a series, or the first one to be held by members of a new organization
- Dialogue - a process in which two people or groups have discussions in order to solve problems
- Compatibility - the fact that different ideas or systems can exist together
- Hotline - a direct telephone line that allows leaders of different governments to speak to each other in an emergency

- Foundational - forming the base from which everything else develops
- Negotiation - formal discussions in which people or groups try to reach an agreement, especially in a business or political situation

- Drift - to go from one state to another without realizing it
- Occasional - happening sometimes, but not frequently or regularly
- Discord - disagreement between people
- Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
- Clear-cut - definite and easy to understand, recognize, or make a decision about
- Assurance - a feeling or attitude of being certain that something is true
- Waiver - an official statement or document that says a right, claim, or law can be officially ignored or given up
- Tariff - a tax that a government charges on goods that enter or leave their country
- Impose - to introduce something such as a new law or new system, and force people to accept it
- Import - a product from another country, that is bought with money from your country
- Surplus - more of something than is necessary
- Acquiesce - to agree to something or to accept something, although you do not want to
- Blatant - done in an obvious way that shows you are not embarrassed or ashamed to be doing something bad or illegal
- Zero out - to reduce some quantity to zero
- Unreasonable - not fair
- Dearly - very much
- Substantial - large in amount or degree
- Sanction - an official order to stop communication, trade, etc with a country that has broken international law
- Waiver - an official statement or document that says a right, claim, or law can be officially ignored or given up
- Pursue - to follow a course of activity
- Leap of faith - a decision to believe that something is true or will happen although you have no proof
- Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
- Administration - the government of a country
- Flexible - able to make changes or deal with a situation that is changing

- Stiff - more severe or difficult than usual
- Nimble - able to move quickly and easily
- Adapt - to change your ideas or behaviour so that you can deal with a new situation
- Behemoth - someone or something that is very large, especially a company
- Succeed - to achieve something that you planned to do or attempted to do
- Era - a period of time that has a particular quality or character
- Rapid - happening, moving, or acting quickly
