- The 11th World Hindi Conference begins today in Mauritian capital Port Louis.

- The conference was inaugurated by Mauritian Prime Minister Praveen Kumar Jagannath.
- External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha and West Bengal Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi are attending the conference.

National Current Affairs
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced an interim relief fund of ₹500 crore for flood-hit Kerala after a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today.

- Modi also conducted an aerial survey of the affected districts, which was earlier delayed due to heavy rains.
- At least 324 lives have been lost in the state's worst floods since 1924.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Insurance regulator Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) today notified insurance companies asking them to cover medical treatment for mental illnesses on the same basis as it is available for treatment of physical illnesses.

- The order is applicable to all insurance companies in India with immediate effect.
- Note : This order comes three months after the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 came into force on May 29.
- Andhra Bank raises MCLR (Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate) by 0.15% for various tenors.

- This is the second time that Andhra Bank has raised the MCLR. Earlier in June it has raised its MCLR by 0.05 % to up to 8.55 percent for various tenors.
- Hollywood Actress Scarlett Johansson has become the highest-paid actress in the world with USD 40.5 million, according to Forbes magazine.

- Pakistan's Cricket World Cup-winning captain and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan took oath as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan at the President House in Islamabad today.

- Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has been re-elected as president after defeating opposition candidate, Soumaila Cisse, in a runoff vote.
Deaths
- Kofi Annan (80), the first black African to become UN secretary-general passed away.

- He served two terms as UN chief from 1997 to 2006, and was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for humanitarian work for his efforts in 2001.
Sports Current Affairs
- Indian Teen cyclist Esow Alben (17) created history by winning Silver Medal in the Men's Keirin event of the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Aigle, Switzerland.

- Note : This is India's maiden medal in track cycling at the world level.
- The 18th Asian Games 2018 was declared open today by Indonesia's President Joko Widodo during a colourful opening ceremony in Jakarta.

- The pan-Asian-multi-sports event is scheduled to be held during 18th August to 2nd September 2018.
- Indonesian cities Jakarta and Palembang are jointly hosting the games.
