Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "On Section 377: Question of equality"
  • Gay - sexually attracted to people of the same sex (This word is mainly used about men).
  • Undo - to have the effect of changing something back into its original
  • Homosexual - attracted sexually to people of the same sex
  • Upheld -  if a court of law upholds something such as a claim, it says that it is correct
  • Flawed - spoiled by something such as a fault or mark, or lacking something
  • Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
  • In prospect - expected or being considered
  • LGBT - lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender
  • Minuscule - extremely small in size or amount
  • Fraction - a small part or amount of something
  • Sanction - official permission for taking action
  • Privacy -  the freedom to do things without other people watching you or knowing what you are doing
  • Sexual orientation - the state of having sexual relationships with people of one sex rather than the other
  • Perceive - to understand or think about something in a particular way
  • Conceive - to think of something such as a new idea, plan, or design
  • Decriminalise - to change the law so that something that was illegal becomes legal
  • Consensual - agreed to by all the people involved
  • Transgender - relating to people whose sexual identity does not match traditionally accepted male and female genders
  • Jurisprudence - the study of law
  • Aspect - a particular part, feature, or quality of something
  • Dignity - respect that other people have for you or that you have for yourself
  • Violation -  an action that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
  • Circumstance - a fact or condition that affects a situation
  • In contrast - used when you are comparing two things or people and saying that the second one is very different from the first
  • Comprehensive - including many details or aspects of something
  • Affirm - to state that something is true or that you agree with it, especially in public
  • Confine - to keep an activity within particular limits
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
  • Inherent - an inherent quality is a basic or essential feature that gives something its character
  • Overturn - to say officially that something such as a decision or law is wrong and change it
  • Touchstone - a standard that is used for testing or judging other things

  • Reserve - an area of land where wild animals or plants are officially protected
  • Roadkill - an animal or bird that has been killed by a vehicle and is lying in the road
  • Tragic - causing or involving great sadness, because someone suffers or dies
  • Breeding - the process of mating and producing young animals
  • Habitat - the type of place that a particular animal usually lives in or a particular plant usually grows
  • Charismatic - a charismatic person has a strong personal quality that makes other people like them and be attracted to them
  • Hit-and-run - a hit-and-run accident is one in which a driver does not stop after their vehicle has hit a person or another car
  • Irony - a strange, funny, or sad situation in which things happen in the opposite way to what you would expect
  • Successive - coming or happening one after another in a series
  • Monitor - to regularly check something or watch someone in order to find out what is happening
  • Amphibian - an animal such as a frog or toad that lives mainly on land, but produces its eggs and develops into its adult form in water
  • Contradiction - a difference in two or more statements, ideas, stories etc that makes it impossible for both or all of them to be true
  • Inevitable - impossible to avoid or prevent
  • Reassess - to think again about something in order to decide if you should change the way you feel about it or deal with it
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Diversity - the fact of many different types of things or people being included in something
  • Realign -  to change the position of something, especially in relation to the position of something else
  • Assessment - the process of making a judgment or forming an opinion, after considering something or someone carefully
  • Insist - to say very firmly that something must happen or must be done
  • Robust - strong and successful
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential
  • Isolate - an isolated place is a long way from other places and is often difficult to get to
  • Trait - a particular quality in someone’s character
  • Belt -  an area of land where there is a particular industry, activity etc
  • Remedy - a solution to a particular problem
  • Underpass - part of a road or path that goes under another road or under a railway
  • Sustainable - capable of continuing for a long time at the same level
  • Consistent - not changing in behaviour, attitudes, or qualities
  • Curb - to control or limit something that is not wanted
  • Sanctuary - official protection given to someone by a place that is safe for them
  • Convoy - a group of vehicles or ships that travel together, especially for protection
  • Diminish - to make something become less
