  • Unseemly - unseemly behaviour is embarrassing or upsets people because it is not suitable in a particular situation
  • Spat - a short argument
  • Reunion - a situation in which people meet each other again after a period of time when they have been separated
  • Step back - to stop for a moment in order to consider something
  • Accusatory - intended to show someone that you think they have done something wrong
  • Former - used for describing someone or something that had a particular job, title, status etc in the past, but not now
  • Adhere to - to obey a rule, law, agreement etc
  • Norms - standards of behaviour that are accepted in a particular society
  • Accuse - to say that someone has done something wrong or committed a crime
  • Espionage - attempts to discover your enemy’s political, military, or industrial secrets using secret methods
  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Deteriorate - to become worse
  • On several counts - on a number of ways
  • Trial - the process of examining a case in a court of law and deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent
  • Sham - something that people pretend is good, serious, or honest but is really not
  • Consular - relating to an official chosen by a government to live in a foreign city, in order to take care of people from the official's own country who travel or live there, and to protect the trade interests of that government
  • Execution - the act of killing a person as a punishment for a crime
  • Humanitarian - relating to efforts to help people who are living in very bad conditions and are suffering
  • Gaggle - a group of people, especially a noisy and uncontrolled group
  • Hostile - behaving in a very unfriendly or threatening way towards someone
  • Hurled - to shout at someone in a very angry way
  • Undignified - embarrassing or silly, in a way that will make people not respect you
  • Crass - stupid and offensive because of not being sensitive to other people’s feelings
  • Scrutiny - careful examination of someone or something
  • Frisking - ] to search someone with your hands in order to see if they are carrying anything illegal
  • Attire - the clothes that someone is wearing
  • Obscure - to cover something so that it cannot be seen
  • Egregious - extremely bad
  • Mandate - to give official permission for something to happen
  • Denominational - relating to a particular religious group
  • Tinge - a small amount of a colour, feeling, or quality
  • Summoning - to officially order someone to come to a place, especially a court of law
  • Diplomacy - the ability to deal with people in a sensitive way that does not upset or offend them
  • Coerce - to persuade someone forcefully to do something that they are unwilling to do
  • Imprudence - unwise, by failing to consider the likely results of your actions
  • Face-saver - something that you do in order to stop people losing respect for you
  • Counterproductive - having the opposite result to the one you intended

  • Encephalitis - a very serious disease affecting your brain that is caused by an infection
  • Inflammatory - causing or related to swelling and pain in the body

  • Toxin - a poisonous substance that causes disease
  • Fatal - with very serious negative effects
  • Dysfunction - any medical condition in which a part of your body does not work normally
  • Scourge - something that causes a lot of trouble or harm
  • Scrub typhus - a rickettsial disease transmitted to humans by mites and found in parts of eastern Asia
  • Epidemic - a situation in which a disease spreads very quickly and infects many people
  • Lychee - a small round white fruit
  • Emaciated - extremely thin because of serious illness or lack of food
  • Symptom - a sign that someone has an illness
  • Incidence - the number of cases of an illness or a medical condition in a particular place, group, or situation
  • Forefront - a leading or important position
  • Persist -  to continue to do or say something in a determined way
  • Archaic - old and no longer used
  • Relic - something such as a system or rule that remains from an earlier time or situation
  • Acute - very serious or severe
  • Diagnosis - a statement about what disease someone has, based on examining them
  • Pinpoint - to discover or explain exactly what something is
  • Fixation - a very strong interest in something that prevents you from paying attention to anything else
