Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "A neutral Internet"
Hindu Editorial Topic 2 : "Eliminate torture: the need for a law to prevent custodial cruelty"
- Neutral - not supporting a particular side in an argument or disagreement
- Net neutrality - the principle that governments, ISPs etc should not restrict or interfere with users' access to the internet
- Consistent - continuing or developing steadily in the same way
- Consultation - discussion between people or groups before they make a decision
- Regulator - a person or organization whose job is to be certain that companies, systems etc act fairly and follow rules
- Reiterate - to repeat something in order to emphasize it or make it very clear to people
- Discriminatory - treating a particular group of people unfairly because of their religion, race, or other personal features
- Tinkering - to make small changes to something in order to improve or repair it
- In a nutshell - used for saying that you are going to express something in a simple direct way
- Stand in the way of something - to try to prevent something from happening
- Undue - not necessary or reasonable
- Hindrance - something that delays or prevents progress
- For instance - for example
- In the wake of - happening after an event or as a result of it
- Discriminate - to treat someone unfairly because of their religion, race, or other personal features
- The backbone of something - the part of something that makes it successful or strong
- Nuanced - taking account of or including small but important differences
- Blanket ban - complete ban
- Niche - an opportunity to sell a particular product or service that no one else is selling
- Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem
- Caveat - a warning of the limits of a particular agreement or statement
- Loophole - something that has been left out of a law or legal document that people can use to avoid obeying it

- Torture - extreme physical pain caused by someone or something, especially as a punishment or as a way to make someone say something
- Custodial - relating to putting or keeping someone in prison
- Standalone - not connected to anything else, or not depending on anything else
- Enacting - to make a proposal into law
- Imperative - extremely important and urgent
- Pragmatic - involving or emphasizing practical results rather than theories and ideas
- Ratify - to make an agreement official by signing it or formally accepting it
- Convention - a formal agreement between governments of different countries about how they should behave towards each other or towards the people in their country
- Perpetrator - someone who has committed a crime or a violent or harmful act
- Inhuman - extremely cruel, and not caring when other people are suffering
- Extradition - the return of someone accused of a crime to the country where the crime was committed
- Offender - someone who has committed a crime
- Accede to - to do what someone wants or agree with what they say
- Chronic problem - a chronic problem is always happening or returning and is very difficult to solve
- Over-crowding - unpleasant conditions caused by too many people or things being in the same place
- Prevalent - very common in a particular place or among a particular group
- Confess - to admit that you have committed a crime
- Lapsed - no longer legally effective
- Inflict - to force someone to experience something very unpleasant
- Compensation - money that someone receives because something bad has happened to them
