1.Spearhead (verb)-अगुआई करना, आरंभक 
Meaning: lead (an attack or movement).
Synonyms:  lead, head, front, be the driving force behind.
Example: The official explanation is that the arrests were carried out as part of an anti-corruption campaign spearheaded by MBS, as Crown Prince Mohammed is widely known.

2.Purge(noun)-परिशोध, पाप हटाना 
Meaning: an abrupt or violent removal of a group of people.
Synonyms: removal, expulsion, exclusion, eviction, clearance, clear-out, discharge, dismissal, sacking, ousting, deposition, eradication, rooting out, weeding out. 
Example: On the other hand, there’s a pattern in the purges. When King Salman ascended the throne in January 2015, initially he was careful not to disrupt the balance within the palace even as he made MBS, his favourite son, the Defence Minister.

3.Succumb (verb)-अधीन होना, वशीभूत होना 
Meaning: fail to resist pressure, temptation, or some other negative force.
Synonyms: yield, give in, give way, submit, surrender, capitulate, cave in.
Example: Given the media glare that accompanies such tragedies, the police must learn not to succumb to the temptation to wrap up probes under public pressure. That the police had to extract a false confession is downright disgraceful, but it is not an isolated case in a country known for its primitive investigative methods. 

4.Doldrums (noun)-उदासी, विषाद 
Meaning: a state or period of stagnation or depression.
Synonyms: depression, melancholy, gloom, gloominess, glumness, downheartedness, dejection, despondency, dispiritedness, heavy-heartedness, heartache, unhappiness, sadness, misery, woe, dismalness, despair, pessimism, hopelessness. 
Example: If banks do not have adequate capital, they cannot lend. This would dampen the economy, which is already in the doldrums.

5.Onus (noun)-दायित्व, भार 
Meaning: something that is one's duty or responsibility.
Synonyms: burden, responsibility, liability, obligation, duty, weight,  mantle, encumbrance. 
Example: In the draft Egg Laying Hens Rules, the onus is on a farmer to immediately report the “outbreak or suspected outbreak of any zoonotic or contagious disease or infection to the local authority, the State Board and the State government. Every farm shall have at least one room or enclosure for quarantining sick hens, or hens suspected to be sick”.

6.Forage (verb)-भोजन के लिए घूमना 
Meaning: search (a place) so as to obtain food.
Synonyms: hunt, hunt around, search, look about/around/round, cast about/around/round, rummage (about/around/round), ferret (about/around), root about/around, scratch about/around, nose around/about/round, scour, look high and low. 
Example: These include ramps, low perches, pecking blocks and straw bales to stimulate exploratory, foraging and locomotive behaviour and to minimise injurious pecking. Besides, poultry farms should sell chickens only to licensed slaughter houses.

7.Infatuate (verb)-मूढ बनाना, उत्तेजित करना 
Meaning: be inspired with an intense but short-lived passion or admiration for.
Synonyms: besotted, in love, love-struck, head over heels in love, hopelessly in love, obsessed, taken. 
Example: “The mistake you can make is come here and be infatuated with the Indian side and concentrate too much on them. We know they are a good side, but we played them only a few months ago. We have concentrated on our strengths and jobs. If we execute them well, it will be a challenging series.”

8.Ratify (verb)-पुष्टि करना
Meaning: sign or give formal consent to (a treaty, contract, or agreement), making it officially valid.
Example: At the IOA executive committee meeting here on Thursday, in the presence of Ramachandran, the EC members ratified the decision to shift the venue of the annual general body meeting from Chennai to Delhi (at IOA Bhawan), which was a huge setback for the president. The AGM date will remain the same — December 14.

9.Annul (verb)-रद्द करना, अंत करना 
Meaning: declare invalid (an official agreement, decision, or result).
Synonyms: declare invalid, declare null and void, nullify, invalidate, void.
Example: They are suspected of having followed a “concerted strategy to declare independence,” before the official declaration of the Catalan Parliament on October 27. That declaration was annulled on Wednesday by Spain’s Constitutional Court.

10.Sedition (noun)-देशद्रोह
Meaning: conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.
Synonyms: incitement (to riot/rebellion), agitation, rabble-rousing, fomentation (of discontent), troublemaking, provocation, inflaming. 
Example: A judge may decide to detain Carme Forcadell and five former lawmakers on charges of sedition, rebellion and misuse of public funds after Catalan lawmakers voted last month to split from Spain.
