  • Reinforce - to make a situation, process, or type of behaviour stronger and more likely to continue
  • Diplomatic - relating to the profession or skill of preserving or creating friendly relationships between countries
  • Majority - the number of votes by which a person or party wins an election
  • Simultaneous - happening or done at the same time
  • Ballot - the process of voting secretly to choose a candidate in an election or express an opinion about an issue
  • Dead heat - a situation in which two people finish a race at exactly the same time, so that they both win
  • Panel - a group of people who make decisions or judgments
  • Adequate - good enough or large enough for a particular purpose
  • Paving the way - if something paves the way for/to something else, it makes the other thing possible
  • Significant - very important
  • Assault - a strong criticism
  • Conservative - not willing to accept much change, especially in the traditional values of society
  • Diminishing - to become less / to make something become less
  • Inseparable - if two or more things are inseparable, they are so closely connected that they cannot be considered separately
  • Unquestioning - never doubting or criticizing
  • Assert - to speak or behave in a firm, confident way
  • Heavy-lifting - difficult work that needs a lot of effort

  • Flout - to deliberately refuse to obey a rule or custom
  • Monitor - to regularly check something or watch someone in order to find out what is happening
  • Threat -  a situation or an activity that could cause harm or danger
  • Bedrock of - the ideas and principles on which a belief or system is based
  • Prophylaxis - the use of medical treatment for preventing disease or infection
  • Tertiary-care - a very high standard of care provided in hospitals
  • Meanwhile - at the same time
  • Crisis -  an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Take up the baton - take responsibility for something
