International Current Affairs
- India is going to host the 13th session of United Nations' global wildlife summit on migratory species (CMS COP13) in 2020.

- About CMS COP :

- The CMS COP [Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species], held once in three years, is the only international treaty devoted exclusively to migratory wildlife species.
- This summit aims to conserve terrestrial, marine, and avian migratory species on a global level.
- Burundi today became the first country to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- French Defence Minister Florence Parly today arrived in India for a two-day visit and was accorded with the Guard of Honour.

- Parly held wide-ranging talks with her Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman to boost defence and security ties between the two countries.
- Both the leaders discussed the regional security situation and ways to ramp up overall strategic ties.
- The Catalan Parliament today voted 70-10 in favour of a resolution to declare independence from Spain.
National Current Affairs
- The centre will be introducing mark sheets for gram panchayats to asses their performance, in an attempt to alleviate poverty in rural areas.

- According to this, the panchayats which score low marks will be receiving more resources.
- Covering 21 development parameters, the mark sheet will include 30 marks for infrastructure, 40 for economic activities and 30 for human resources.
- Mobile Aadhaar (m-Aadhaar) can now be used as an identity proof to enter airports, a circular by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security of India has stated.

- The circular lists ten identity proofs, including passport, driving licence or a nationalised bank passbook, which can be produced to gain entry.
- The Supreme Court has ruled that "no express or implied consent of the husband is required for getting a pregnancy terminated".

- An adult woman has an "unimpeachable right" to give birth or terminate the pregnancy, the court added.
Awards & Honors
- Soviet submarine officer Vasili Arkhipov who averted the outbreak of a nuclear conflict during the Cold War will be awarded a $50,000 (£38,182) prize by a US-based organisation whose advisory board includes Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk.

- During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, Arkhipov refused to launch a nuclear torpedo in retaliation to a non-lethal US attack on a USSR submarine.
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has received the ‘Golden Peacock Award’ under the Global Leadership in Public Service and Economic Transformation category at a convention in London.

- India has become the 2nd largest smartphone market in the world after overtaking the United States.

- Note : India now stands behind China on the list.
- Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos has overtaken Bill Gates to become the World's Richest Person with a net worth of $91.6 billion.
Science & Technology
- The world's first hybrid electric tram powered by hydrogen fuel cells has started running in China.

- The tram, which has three carriages with 66 seats, can run for 40 kilometres at a maximum speed of 70 kilometres per hour after being refilled with 12 kilograms of hydrogen.
Sports Current Affairs
- Indian shooter Sangram Dahiya won a Silver medal in the final round of the men's double trap at the ISSF Shooting World Cup Final today.

- India's Amanpreet Singh also won a bronze medal in 50m pistol category to push India's medal tally to three in the tournament.
- The 32 countries competing at the 2018 World Cup will share $400 million (₹2,600 crore) in prize money, FIFA announced today.

- The winners of the tournament will pocket $38 million, $3 million more than what 2014 World Cup winner Germany received.
- Note : The tournament will be played across 11 cities in Russia from June 14 to July 15.
- World number four Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth beat defending champion Shi Yuqi of China to reach the French Open semis today.
