1.Volatile (adjective)
Meaning: liable to change rapidly and unpredictably, especially for the worse.
Synonyms: tense, strained, fraught, uneasy, uncomfortable, charged, explosive, eruptive, inflammatory, turbulent, in turmoil, full of upheavals. 
Example: Pakistan on Thursday blamed India and Afghanistan for the volatile security situation in the region, while denying charges that it is harbouring terrorists who target both the countries.

2.Refute (verb)
Meaning: prove (a statement or theory) to be wrong or false; disprove.
Synonyms: disprove, prove wrong/false, show/prove to be wrong/false, rebut, confute, give the lie to, demolish, explode, debunk, drive a coach and horses through, discredit, invalidate. 
Example: Mr. Abbasi’s claims and allegations were refuted by both India and Afghanistan at the UN General Assembly (UNGA). In a strongly worded reaction, India said Pakistan had become a “terroristan,” and Jammu and Kashmir would remain an integral part of India.

3.Strident (adjective)
Meaning: (of a sound) loud and harsh; grating.
Synonyms: harsh, raucous, rough, grating, rasping, jarring, loud, stentorian, shrill, screeching, piercing, ear-piercing. 
Example: Striking a strident note against the neighbours and portraying Pakistan as a victim of terrorism, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also sought the appointment of a special UN envoy on Kashmir, and accused India of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

4.Expeditious (adjective)
Meaning: done with speed and efficiency.
Synonyms: speedy, swift, quick, rapid, fast.
Antonyms: slow
Example: He said India was trying to “divert the world’s attention from its brutalities,” by ceasefire violations on the LoC. “The Kashmir dispute should be resolved justly, peacefully and expeditiously. Terming the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir the “most intense foreign military occupation in recent history,” Mr. Abbasi sought an international investigation into “India’s crimes in Kashmir.”

5.Concordance (noun)
Meaning: agreement or consistency.
Example: The key political question that has arisen in Tamil Nadu is whether Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami commands a majority in the State Assembly. There is a remarkable concordance among political and constitutional functionaries concerned in abdicating their core responsibility to find an answer to this question. 

6.Dissident (noun)
Meaning: a person who opposes official policy, especially that of an authoritarian state.
Synonyms: dissenter, objector, protester, disputant.
Example: The Chief Minister is not keen on demonstrating his strength on the floor of the House. The Speaker is concentrating on ensuring that dissidents are kept out of any possible confidence vote, if and when one takes place. The Leader of the Opposition has not moved a motion of no confidence, but, on the contrary, believes that the Governor should order a floor test.

7.Vertebrate (noun)
Meaning: an animal of a large group distinguished by the possession of a backbone or spinal column, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fishes.
Example: The population of vertebrate species on Earth in the wild saw a dramatic fall of about 30% between 1970 and 2006, with the worst effects being in the tropics and in freshwater ecosystems. 

8.Obliterate (verb)
Meaning: destroy utterly; wipe out.
Synonyms: destroy, wipe out, annihilate, exterminate, extirpate, demolish, eliminate, eradicate, kill, decimate, liquidate, wipe off the face of the earth, wipe off the map. 
Example: Destruction of species’ habitats by pollutants and land-use change are obliterating flora and fauna at unprecedented rates. In fact, the ecological footprint of humanity — the natural habitats, such as water and land, transformed or destroyed as a result of human activity — far exceeds the biological capacity of the earth.

9.Circumspection (noun)
Meaning: the quality of being wary and unwilling to take risks; prudence.
Synonyms: caution, carefulness, care, wariness, chariness, guardedness. 
Example: It is only with a great degree of caution and circumspection that the interim report of the Steering Committee of the Constitutional Assembly of Sri Lanka can be welcomed. 

10.Fractious (adjective)
Meaning: (typically of children) irritable and quarrelsome.
Synonyms: grumpy, grouchy, crotchety, in a (bad) mood, cantankerous, bad-tempered, ill-tempered, ill-natured, ill-humoured, peevish, having got out of bed the wrong side, cross, as cross as two sticks, disagreeable, pettish.
Example: There is room for both hope and fear. There is scope for optimism that Sri Lanka’s fractious polity could get its act together and adopt a durable constitution that would protect its unity and stability, distribute powers equitably across ethnic and geographical divisions, and ensure economic prosperity for all.
