1.Imbroglio (noun)
Meaning: an extremely confused, complicated, or embarrassing situation.
Synonyms: complicated situation, complication, complexity, problem, difficulty, predicament, plight, trouble, entanglement, confusion, muddle, mess, quandary, dilemma.
Example: The Doklam plateau has become the unlikely scene of the latest India-China imbroglio. The region falls within Bhutanese territory, but this is now questioned by China. 


2.Exacerbate (verb)
Meaning: make (a problem, bad situation, or negative feeling) worse.
Synonyms: aggravate, make worse, worsen, inflame, compound.
Antonyms: calm, reduce
Example: The problem is exacerbated by weather and market risks. According to the latest National Sample Survey on Situation Assessment Survey of Agricultural Households (NSS-SAS), 13.9% farm households experienced negative return from crop production during 2012-13. Non-farm income comprised 40% of the income of farm households, but access to non-farm sources of income is highly skewed as about 40% of farm households reported zero income from such sources.

3.Unremunerative (adjective)
Meaning: bringing little or no profit or income.
Synonyms: fruitless, futile, idle, useless
Antonyms: useful, working, worthwhile, beneficial, gainful, helpful
Example: Modern agriculture requires investment in farm machinery and use of purchased inputs like seed, fertiliser, agri-chemicals, diesel and hired labour. Most often, savings generated from unremunerative crop enterprise are inadequate for such investments.


4.Dismantle (verb)
Meaning: take (a machine or structure) to pieces.
Synonyms: take apart, take to pieces, take to bits, pull apart, pull to pieces, deconstruct, disassemble, break up, strip (down).
Example: NITI Aayog was to be an advisory body but here they are rushing through a policy that will essentially hand over public assets to the private sector, leading to a further dismantling of the public services available for free. If the government has to give seed money, share blood banks and other infrastructure, and still not be able to reserve beds for poor patients, it seems like we are not getting much in return,” said Dr. Sengupta.

5.Lambaste (verb)
Meaning: criticize (someone or something) harshly.
Synonyms: criticize, castigate, chastise, censure, condemn, take to task, harangue, attack, rail at, rant at, revile, fulminate against.
Example: Mr. Corbyn, whose anti-monarchist, anti-conflict views already had many of Britain’s tabloids in a tizzy, was lambasted for supposedly refusing to bow as he laid a wreath at the ceremony. 

6.Steadfast (adjective)
Meaning: resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.
Synonyms: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable, reliable, steady, true.
Example: It’s been driven in part by his steadfast refusal to play ball with the mainstream media — he doesn’t take press questions after every public speech, and often ignores questions out of the context of a planned interview, often preferring to respond to criticism on his own terms, through social media. 

7.Avowed (adjective)
Meaning: that has been asserted, admitted, or stated publicly.
Example: An avowed socialist, he has no qualms talking about re-nationalising infrastructure or raising taxes on businesses and the wealthy, an approach shunned by Labour since the days of Tony Blair. 


8.Detractor (noun)
Meaning: a person who disparages someone or something.
Synonyms: critic, disparager, denigrator, deprecator, belittler, attacker, censurer, fault-finder, carper, backbiter, caviller, reviler, vilifier, slanderer, libeller, calumniator, defamer, traducer.
Example: His detractors denounce him as a rebel (he voted against the party whip over 400 times while Labour was in power, between 1997 and 2010), but to his supporters he is a deeply principled politician, willing to stand up to the party, and his family, when those values are on the line. 

9.Espionage (noun)
Meaning: the practice of spying or of using spies, typically by governments to obtain political and military information.
Synonyms: spying, undercover work, cloak-and-dagger activities, surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence, eavesdropping, infiltration, cyber espionage, counter-espionage, counter-intelligence.
Example: Pakistan on Thursday said Kulbhushan Jadhav, the former Indian naval commander who has been sentenced to death by a military court here for espionage and terrorist activities, will not be executed unless he has exhausted his mercy pleas. 

10.Vex (verb)
Meaning: make (someone) feel annoyed, frustrated, or worried, especially with trivial matters.
Synonyms: annoy, irritate, infuriate, anger, incense, inflame, enrage, irk, chagrin, exasperate, madden, pique, provoke, nettle, disturb, upset, perturb, discompose, put out.
Example: The lesson here is that while the collegium system had been unable to stop someone of his nature entering judicial office, maintaining internal discipline in the judiciary is an equally vexing issue.
