If you are not able to read a newspaper for SSC Exam, here we are providing vocab words based on the Hindu newspaper editorial.
1.Resonance (noun)
Meaning: If something has a resonance for someone, it has a special meaning or is particularly important to them.
Example: One can see strong resonances of Mrs Gandhi’s style in the Modi government’s mode of functioning in their all or nothing friend or enemy view of politics, with complete disregard for the autonomy of institutions.
2.Marauding (adjective)
Meaning: going about in search of things to steal or people to attack.
Example: In the Congress too, the leadership issue is more or less settled. Denying Chief Minister Siddaramaiah another shot at power would only weaken the party further. In any case, in the latest round of by-elections he held his own against a marauding BJP.
3.Remnant (noun)
Meaning: a part or quantity that is left after the greater part has been used, removed, or destroyed.
synonyms: remains, remainder, leftovers, leavings, residue, rest;
Example: Today, very large telescopes send us iconic images of distant galaxies and of faint remnants of the light produced by the Big Bang. The light from the moons of Jupiter was always falling on earth. It took a telescope to detect it because it was so feeble and could not be seen with the naked eye. Interesting things, telescopes. They observe something that is already there. They do not produce what they observe.
4.Jurisprudence (noun)
Meaning: the theory or philosophy of law., a legal system.
Example: Such an outcome would be an easy one for the court to achieve, and of a piece with decades of consistent jurisprudence.
5.Amorous (adjective)
Meaning: showing, feeling, or relating to sexual desire.
synonyms: lustful, sexual, erotic, amatory, ardent.
Example: He doesn’t have much success, but we enjoy a few hours of watching bears in their natural habitat, eating, moseying around and fending off amorous Romeos.
6.Relinquish (verb)
Meaning: voluntarily cease to keep or claim; give up.
synonyms: renounce, give up, part with, give away.
Example: I explore first by bike, winding along narrow forest trails and newly laid boardwalks
by expanses of shimmering water. Summer has come late this year, but the ice is melting fast and I can hear it creaking on the lake’s surface, finally relinquishing its grip on the quickening water.
7.Accommodation (noun)
Meaning: a room, group of rooms, or building in which someone may live or stay., a convenient arrangement; a settlement or compromise.
synonyms: housing, lodging(s), living quarters, quarters, rooms, chambers, arrangement, understanding, settlement, accord, deal, bargain, compromise.
Example: “We want to attract a younger, more international crowd,” says Maija Daly, who helps tourism-related businesses set up in the park. “The park has been popular with old-school hikers and fishermen for years, but now we are offering upgraded accommodation and extended activities.”
8.Adjudicate (verb)
Meaning: make a formal judgement on a disputed matter., act as a judge in a competition.
synonyms: judge, adjudge, try, hear, examine, arbitrate, decide on, decide, settle, resolve, determine, pronounce on, give a ruling on, sit in judgement on, pass judgement on, give a verdict on, make a ruling on.
Example: One would expect the judges of the Supreme Court to adjudicate the constitutional validity of triple talaq (and, if they choose, of the other practices under question as well) detached from the political debate, and strictly in accordance with law.
9.Instantaneous (adjective)
Meaning: occurring or done instantly.
synonyms: immediate, instant, on-the-spot, prompt, direct, swift, speedy, rapid, quick, expeditious, express, lightning.
Example: They draw a distinction between instantaneous talaq, or talaq-i-bidat (where divorce is complete when “talaq” is uttered three times in succession) with talaq ahasan, which requires a 90-day period of abstinence after the pronouncement, and talaq hasan, which requires a one-month-long abstinence gap between utterances. The latter two are part of Islamic personal law, but the first one is not.
10.Tangled (adjective)
Meaning: twisted together untidily; matted.
Example: On this view, the Supreme Court need not go into tangled and messy questions involving personal law and the Constitution; it can decide the question on its own terms.
