Direction (Q. 1-5): These questions are based on the following five three digits numbers.

1.If ‘1’ is subtracted from all the even digits and ‘2’ is subtracted from all the odd digits and then the numbers are arranged in ascending order, which of the following will be the second largest number?

1). 863 725 278 549 875
Ascending order of the given numbers is,
157, 337, 513, 751, 753
Hence, the second largest number is 751
∴ Corresponding number is 863
Answer: a)

2. If the positions of the first and the third digits in each of the numbers are interchanged, then what will be the difference between the first and third digits of the second smallest number thus formed?

2). 863 -> 368
725 -> 527
278 -> 872
549 -> 945
875 -> 578
∴ The second smallest number is 527
Hence, required difference is 7 – 5 = 2
Answer is: d)

3. If all the three digits within each number are arranged in descending order then what will be the difference between second digit of the smallest number and third digit of the largest number thus formed?

3). Descending order is,

The smallest number is 752; the largest number is 954
∴ Required difference is, 5 – 4 =1

4.If ‘1’ is added to the first digit of each number and then the position of first and second digits are interchanged, which of the following will be the third digit of the second highest number?

The second highest number is 738
∴ the third digit of 738 is ‘8’

5. If first and second digits of each number is added the sum of which of the following numbers would be an even number?

5). 863 -> 8+6 = 14
725 -> 7+2 =9
278 -> 2+7=9
549-> 5+4 =9
875 ->8+7 =15

6. In a row of girls, Kamala is fourteenth from the left end of the row. If she is shifted towards the right end of the row by five places, she becomes tenth from the right end. How many girls are there in the row?

6). Kamala is 14th from the left end and 5 places towards right end is 14 + 5= 19th.
Hence, the total number of girls in the row is,
= (position from left + position from right- 1)
= 19 + 10 – 1= 29 -1 =28

7. In a class of 56 students A’s rank from the top is twelve and ‘B’ ranks five places below ‘A’. What is the rank of ‘B’ from the bottom?

7). B’s position from top = 12 + 5 = 17
B’s position from bottom = 56 – 17 + 1 = 40

8. Vidya is eighteenth from the left end and Nithya is ninth from right end. What is the number of girls between Vidya and Nithya, if there are 38 girls in the row?

8). The number of girls between Vidya and Nithya is = 38 – (18 +9) = 38 – 27 =11
Answer is: c)

9. D is taller than W but shorter than P. B is taller than V but shorter than W. S is taller than B but shorter than P. Who is the tallest among all?

9).P > D> W > B > V and S is between P and B i.e. P > B
Hence, P is the tallest among all. Answer is: b)

10.Amritha is heavier than Geetha. Kavitha is lighter than Jaya. Punitha is heavier than Jaya but lighter than Geetha. Who among them is the second heaviest?

10).Amritha > Geetha > Punitha > Jaya > Kavitha
Hence, Geetha is the second heaviest.
