Odisha activist entered the Limca Book of Records for RTI replies

Odisha- based activist Akhand entered the Limca Book of Records for the highest number of replies received from a single organization on a Right to Information (RTI) application. In less than three months, between February and April 2016, Mr. Akhand received333 replies from the Department of Posts. According to the Limca Book of Records, hehad received 162 replies in February, 157 in March and 14 in April. The Odisha-based activist had filed a petition under the RTI Act, 2005, with the Department of Posts on January 22, 2016, asking whether Internal Complaint Committees (ICC) had been formed at various divisions of the Department as per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal)Act, 2013.
Maharashtra government plans to setting up electric vehicle charging stations
The Maharashtra government plans to frame a new policy for setting up electric vehicle charging stations across the State. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday told afterthe inauguration of country’s first multi-modal electric vehicle project and Ola electric charging station.
PM Modi said new campaign will be launched on World Environment day this year
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said a massive campaign of waste management will be launched by the Centre and state governments on the occasion of World Environment Day. Addressing the nation through Mann Ki Baat programme, Mr Modi said litter bins will be made available to collect solid and liquid waste in 4000 towns of the country on 5th of June. MrModi said this year, the United Nations has chosen the theme : ‘Connecting People to Nature’ for World Environment Day.
Ladakh region got seven major road projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna
To improve road connectivity in Ladakh region of the Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, seven major roads projects under the Centrally-sponsored scheme - Central Road Fund-have been implemented in the last two years. Five road projects were implemented to connect the remote and difficult terrain villages of Leh district. More than 25 percent of work on these roads has been completed so far. Two more road projects were sanctioned this year and are under tendering process.
Mahesh Sharma  saidIndia's tourism growth reaches 15.4 %
Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma has said India's tourism growth has reached 15(point) 4 per cent when the global tourism growth was only 4 (point) 6 per cent.
Speaking to media persons at Tiruchirapalli today, he said that tourism earnings in the country have increased to one lakh 56 thousand crore this year. The Union Minister said that a city in Tamil Nadu will be selected and developed holistically as a tourist destination. He said the state has a very old civilization and deep-rooted culture. He added that there is a huge potential for medical tourism as well as spiritual tourism.

The European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) in its enclosure on Cerro Armazones, a 3060-metre mountaintop in Chile's Atacama Desert. The 39-metre E-ELT will be the largest optical/infrared telescope in the world.

The biggest integrated steel plant of Odisha was made operational with the commissioning of the country’s largest blast furnace. Inaugurating the state of the art 6 mtpa steel plant of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.( JSPL), Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said it would provide direct employment to about 30,000 people and indirect jobs to many others. JSPL chairman Naveen Jindal said the plant was set upat an investment of about33,000 crore rupees.
Dattatreya said EPFO approves hike investment in exchange traded funds
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has said that the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has approved hike in investment limit in exchange traded funds to 15 per cent from the existing 10 per cent. The decision was taken during the meeting of the Central Board of Trustees in Pune yesterday.
