Railway stations to get govt shops providing cheap medicines
The government is planning to open Jan Aushadhi Stores at 1,000 railway stations across the country, to provide affordable medicines to people. The plan will gradually spread to bus stands as well. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi scheme, generic medicines, which have the same effect as expensive branded ones, are sold to the public at cheaper rates.

‘Invisible’ laser walls to bolster security along border with Pakistan in J-K
The Border Security Force (BSF) is all set to get more teeth to man the 198 km India-Pakistan international border using a newly developed technology that can detect intrusions and relay information immediately to the nearest post for action.
Developed by Delhi-based defence IoT firm, CRON Systems, the made-in-India technology is called Kavach (KVx) series laser walls and is a notch higher than the existing laser walls.

US, China sign trade agreement on beef, financial services:
The US and China have signed a 10-point trade deal that opens the Chinese market to US credit rating agencies and lifts China's ban on US beef imports and shipments of liquefied natural gas. The deal, hailed by the Trump administration as a significant advance toward boosting US exports also opens up the US market for Chinese poultry and banks.
US nears $100 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia
The US is close to completing a series of arms deals with Saudi Arabia totalling more than $100 billion which could surpass over $300 billion over a decade, White House officials said on Friday. Notably, Saudi Arabia is leading a military coalition in Yemen which has been accused by UN of carrying out attacks that "may amount to war crimes".

Michel Temer has become the acting President of Brazil:
Michel Temer, the former vice president of Brazil, has assumed the presidential powers and duties as Acting President of Brazil following the suspension of President Dilma Rousseff during her impeachment trial. He played an important role in the effort to impeach Dilma Rousseff, the first woman Brazilian President. On May 12, 2016, she has been suspended from office, with her presidential powers and duties removed until her Senate trial ends, but she retains the title, official residence and staff.

Manjit Singh Indian-American personality has been appointed as the member of President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships (PACFBNF) in United States:
Manjit Singh, co-founder of the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, has been appointed as the member of President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships (PACFBNF) by the US President Barack Obama. Singh is the President of Agilious, a software technology consulting firm he founded in 2013.

Uday has hit finances of states, GST will help: RBI study
Several states' finances are worsening after they took over the debt of their electricity distributors under the Ujwal Discom Awas Yojana, an RBI study stated. In this regard, GST implementation will help as states will be compensated for loss of revenue in the initial five years. Successful GST implementation will result in additional revenue through easier tax administration, it added.

India’s first contactless business credit card has been launched by ICICI Bank
India’s first contactless business credit card has been launched by ICICI bank in association with Jet Airways, India premier international airline,, for Small and Mid-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and their employees. The card has been christened as the ‘Jet Airways ICICI Bank Business Advantage Card’, which helps customers to save on their business expenses. The card is powered by the ‘VISA payWave’ contactless technology that enables the cardholder to make payments by simply tapping the card at contactless enabled terminals in more than 48 countries, including India. The card can also be used by dipping or swiping at non-contactless merchants.

Huroof mobile app has been launched by Islamic State (IS) for children to teach them Arabic:
The terrorist group Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh or ISIS or ISIL, has recently launched its first mobile app “Huroof” for children to teach them the Arabic alphabet and it has full of references to weapons and jihad. The app has games for memorizing and how to write the Arabic letters in addition to including a nasheed (a cappella Islamic songs) designed to help teach the alphabet. The lyrics in the nasheed are littered with jihadist terminology, while other games within the app also include militaristic vocabulary with basic words like tank, gun, rocket, etc.

North Korea carries out another ballistic missile test
North Korea today test-fired another ballistic missile, which landed in the sea of Japan after covering 700 kilometres. This is the first provocative move from North Korea since South Korea's new President Moon Jae-in took office. While Moon called the launch a "reckless provocation", the US said North Korea has been "a flagrant menace for far too long".

Ransomware attack creates global havoc
A massive ransomware attack, which security researchers say used a Windows exploit first developed by the United States National Security Agency, shut down computer systems across several countries, including India, last night.
According to anti-virus provider Kaspersky, there were at least 45,000 attacks in 74 countries, Reuters reported. The numbers were an initial estimate and were expected to go up.

JioMoney Wallet service” has been launched by Reliance Indian company
Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has launched “JioMoney Wallet” , a digital wallet service, for Indian consumers. The service will enable customers to make bill payments, mobile recharges and insurance premium payments, as well as do online shopping. It also allows users to send and receive money to and from family and friends. The wallet service, which allows consumers to use barcode scan to pay at physical stores, will also offer deals, coupons and cashback directly to customers on their mobile phone from local merchants. Additionally, the service will enable easy transfer of JioMoney balance into the customer’s bank account.

Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat bag silver in Asian Wrestling Championship:
Three Indian women wrestlers, including Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, settled for a silver medal each in their respective weight categories at the Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi.
Ramudri Rao wins gold at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix:
Ramudri Someswara Rao won a gold medal in the men's 200-metre T44 event at the 2017 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in China on Saturday. Ramudri clocked 25.29 seconds in the finals, followed by silver-medallist Lal Vinay Kumar who clocked 26.15 seconds. Indian para-athlete Sep Hokato Sema won a bronze medal in the shot put event.
