The World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2017 was observed across the world on 10 May 2017. The theme for WMBD 2017 is "Their Future is our Future – A Healthy Planet for Migratory Birds and People”. The theme for the year throws light on the topic ofSustainable Development for Wildlife and People.
PM Modi launches integrated case management system of Supreme Court inpresence of CJI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the digital filing system of the Supreme Court today which will mark the movement towards a paperless Apex Court. Mr. Modi uploaded Integrated Case Management Information System ICMIS with Supreme Court Website. Greeting the people on the occassion of Budha Purnima Mr Modi congratulated the Supreme Court for the new initiative. He also said that he was happy that High Court and Supreme Court Judges cut short their vacation and are working for the poor. Prime Minister also recalled that on this day the first movement of Independence began in 1857.
Assam govt decides to set up Act East Policy Affairs department in state

The Assam govt. has decided to set up Act East Policy Affairs department in the state. The new department will be set up in a bid to give the boost to the ‘Act East policy’. The State Cabinet has also decided to create a Rhino Protection Force to curb poaching.

PM Narendra Modi to visit Sri Lanka to attend International Vesak Day celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a two day visit to Sri Lanka from tomorrow where he will attend International Vesak Day celebrations. Briefing media on the visit, Joint Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry Sanjay Panda said, during his stay Mr Modi will inaugurate 150 bed multi specialty hospital at Dickoya. Mr. Panda said, the hospital is part of developmental cooperation with the island nation. He said, there will be no formal meetings and signing of agreements as the visit is in connection with Vesak day, however meetings will take place with Sri Lankan leaders on the sidelines of the celebration.

Railways to acquire EOTT system to run trains without guards

The Indian Railways will soon run 1000 trains without guards by installing sophisticated equipment in them. A senior Railway Ministry official involved with the project said, Railways will acquire 1000 End of Train Telemetry ,EoTT equipment to begin with, for its container operations and later more such units will be procured for all trains.
Haryana to start door-to-door survey to collect data of every resident

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar has decided to gather a detailed data of every resident and issue a sleek identity for every house in Haryana. The objective of this two-month long data generating exercise, to be launched on June 15, 2017 is to get details of land holdings and status of facilities. The facilities includes social security pension, scholarship, MGNREGA, loans and LPG connection. During the survey, address of each house,  location, details of owner of the house, bank account numbers, IFSC code and Aadhaar and personal details will be gathered.

Oracle signs MoU with Jharkhand for cloud-based citizen services

The Government of Jharkhand and Oracle signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) intended to improve cloud-based citizen services and to make Jharkhand an attractive destination for start-ups. Oracle will offer its support to the state through its vast portfolio of technology solutions, including Oracle Cloud. As part of the MoU, the Government of Jharkhand and Oracle will jointly explore and identify areas in which Oracle’s latest cloud-based technologies can be used to deliver improved citizen services and to address the state’s citizen and business requirements.

Supreme Court to become paperless,digital court from today
The Supreme Court will take its first step towards becoming a paperless, digital court today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the digital filing system at a function in New Delhi where the Integrated Case Management System will be connected with the Supreme Court website. The event will also be attended by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and judges of the apex court.
Justice Karnan is the first High Court judge to be sentenced to jail by Supreme Court
A seven-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar sentenced Justice C S Karnan, the Calcutta High Court judge, to six months of imprisonment.Justice Karnan has been sentenced for imprisonment for repeated incidents of contempt of court. It is the first time that the Supreme Court has sent a high court judge to jail on charges of contempt
DIPP & WIPO to set up Technology and Innovation Support Centers
The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have signed an agreement to establish Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC). WIPO’s Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) program provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high-quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their intellectual property (IP) rights.
India to replace its research station in Antarctica
India has decided to replace its Maitri research station in Antarctica with a new one in the next three to four years. The same was announced by Madhavan Nair Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences. Rajeevan made the announcement while speaking on the sidelines of a programme to formally commence ship building by Titagarh Wagons Ltd in Kolkatta, India. He also stated that India is poised to expand its research activity in the coldest continent and a new ship, with a special ice-cutting facility, will be procured for the purpose.
Edelweiss Tokio launches India's first life insurance Product
Edelweiss Tokio launched India's first and the simplest life insurance product that can be bought at a point of sale (PoS) has finally been launched. Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance has recently launched PoS Saral Nivesh the first product to be approved by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India's (IRDAI) guidelines on point of sale-life insurance products. PoS Saral Nivesh is a non-linked, non-participating endowment life insurance plan which offers both protection and saving.
Government sets up a task force to compute reliable and timely employment data
Government has created a task force on employment data. In view of the importance of timely and reliable data on employment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed his Office and concerned Ministries to come up with a solution to fill the long standing gap in the country’s statistical architecture. The task force will recommend solutions which can be implemented in a time bound manner. The Prime Minister directed that the task be expedited so that policies on employment can be formulated with a proper appreciation of impacts, based on credible data.

Moon Jae-in sworn in as South Korea’s 19th president
The newly elected President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, has been sworn in as 19th President of the country. Mr. Moon took the oath of office, a day after his liberal Democratic Party's decisive victory in a snap election called to find a replacement for Park Geun-hye, who was ousted in March over a corruption scandal. Soon after the swearing in ceremony, Mr. Moon, in a departure from current policy, said he would be willing to visit North Korea in the right circumstances. South Korean President said he is ready to negotiate with China and the United States over a controversial anti-missile defense system.

ICJ Stays Kulbhusan Jadhav’s Hanging
India has received a stay order preventing Pakistan from executing the death sentence awarded to the former naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav from the International Court of Justice at The Hague. India’s team of lawyers led by senior advocate Harish Salve accused Pakistan of gross violations of international laws. They also pointed out the violations of the Geneva convention that deals with Consular relations. Pakistan had denied consular access to India despite 15 attempts. It also refused to give  any details of Jadhav’s arrest and trial until the death sentence was passed.

Jordan, US launch Eager Lion military exercise
Jordan and the United States kicked off Eager Lion, an annual military exercise in Jordan with about 7,400 troops from more than 20 nations taking part. Jordan is a key recipient of US financial aid and a partner in the US-led coalition battling Islamic State group jihadists in Syria and Iraq.

Legendary sitar player ‘Ustad Raees Khan’ (77-year) passed away in Karachi, Pakistan. He was born in 1939 in Indore (India) in a family of musicians later in 1968, he moved to Pakistan. He was honored with the Presidential award (2005) and Sitara-e- Imtiaz (2017).
