Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding delegation level talks with the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The two leaders are schedule to discuss entire gamut of bilateral relations. Earlier, in the morning Mr Anastasiades was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Mr. Anastasiades being received by the President Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ceremonial reception.Later, Mr Anastasiades laid wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi at Raj Ghat.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said India should become tax a compliant society. Addressing the CII Annual Session in New Delhi today, Mr Jaitley said some tough steps are necessary for this. He said, consumers are entitled to benefit from reduced taxation and unfair enrichment is bad but not profiteering. The Finance Minister said India has shown greater ability for infrastructural reforms in last two years and bold decisions have been taken by the government. Mr Jaitley said ever since government started reform process, decision making has become much quicker. He said, India has a large market, human resource, greater ability to reform and bring in structural and courageous reforms.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work observed globally
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2017 was observed across the world on 28 April 2017 with the theme 'Optimize the collection and use of OSH data'. This year, ILO’s campaign focuses on the critical need for countries to improve their capacity to collect and utilize reliable occupational safety and health (OSH) data. The World Day for Safety and Health is organised every year by International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote safe, healthy and decent work. ILO has been observing the Day since 2003.

Venkaiah Naidu to review progress of urban development in Haryana today
Union Minister of Urban Development and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation Venkaiah Naidu will review the implementation and progress of various new urban development and housing missions launched by the central government in Haryana today at a high level meeting at Chandigarh. Chief Minister of Haryana Shri ManoharlalKhattar, concerned Ministers of the State Government, Secretaries of the two urban ministries, Chief Secretary of Haryana and National and state Level Mission Directors of new urban missions and other senior officials will attend the review meeting chaired by the Union Minister.

All-woman India Reserve Battalion (IRB) to be raised in Jammu and Kashmir
The Home Ministry has planned to raise an all-woman India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision has been taken in the wake of girl students throwing stones at security forces in Srinagar a few days ago. The all-woman battalion will be one among the five IRBs that has been sanctioned by the Central government for the State last year. The decision was taken after the Home Minister reviewed various developmental and infrastructure projects in the State. The all-woman battalion’s major role would be to tackle protesters. Apart from that, it would also be assigned other law and order duties. The cost of raising battalions would be Rs. 61 crore and 75% of the expenditure will be borne by the union government.
21 lakh street lights installed across country under Street Light Prog
Over 21 lakh LED street lights have been installed across India under Street Light National Programme across the country. Ministry of Power said in a statement that the newly installed lights have led to brighter streets, feeling of enhanced safety and security among the residents and motorists. Over seven lakh four thousand LED streetlights have been installed in Rajasthan and more than 5 lakh 86 thousand in Andhra Pradesh. The procurement price of the LED street lights has been reduced from 135 rupees per watt to 80 rupees watt due to mass procurement of the lights.
E-taxi trial run to begin in Nagpur
The country’s first electric taxi trial in the country would be launched in Nagpur from May 24. The first project of its kind will be undertaken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Mahindra and Mahindra is set to provide 200 taxis for the initiative.Government strives to address tackle increasing pollution in the country by unveiling various schemes. Electric car taxi is one of the ambitious projects and forms as a part of its UNDP millennium goals to tackle pollution
Uttrakhand: Portals of Gangotri, Yamunotri opened for pilgrims
In Uttrakhand, the portals of the famous Himalayan shrine Gangotri and Yamunotri have been opened for the pilgrims amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and rituals today. With this, the Chardham Yatra has commenced in the State. The annual Chardham Yatra commences today with the opening of the sacred portals of Himalayan shrine Gangotri and Yamunotri after six month winter break. Today the festive doli of the idol of Goddess Yamuna with devotees reached Yamunotri from kharshali , while doli of Goddess Ganga was carried from Mukhwa for Gangotri with traditional drums and trumpets.

Union Government launches MSEFC Portal and MyMSME Mobile App
Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu on 27 April 2017 launched Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council (MSEFC) portal and MyMSME Mobile App. Both the portals were launched as a part of Digital India Initiative from the perspective of the MSME Sector in the country. Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council (MSEFC) portal will facilitate implementation of delayed payment provisions of the MSMED Act 2006 and also assist in monitoring delayed payment cases.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is now set for implementation in Delhi
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban Housing Mission is now set for implementation in Delhi. An official release said that issues that held back implementation of the scheme in the national capital territory for 22 months have now been resolved. Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Venkaiah Naidu has approved signing of Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministry, Delhi Development Authority and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, DUSIB. The issues were resolved at a meeting taken by the Lt.Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal last month.

NASA's Cassini successfully executes dive in between Saturn, its rings
NASA's Cassini spacecraft has successful executed its historic first-ever dive through the narrow gap between the planet Saturn and its rings, marking the beginning of the 'Grand Finale' of the 20-year-long journey. The spacecraft is in the process of beaming back science data collected during its passage, through NASA's Deep Space Network Goldstone Complex in California's Mojave Desert. Jim Green, Director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA in the US, yesterday told that no spacecraft has ever been this close to Saturn before.

UAE's first solar-powered gas station opens in Dubai
The Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) on 26 April 2017 opened United Arab Emirates’ first solar-powered gas station. The ENOC states that the country’s first solar-powered gas station signifies country’s increased focus on maintaining the highest standards of sustainability and clean energy. The station goes in line with the great strides made by the Emirate of Dubai to turn itself into a hub for renewable energy as part of the Dubai 2020 Vision. The Vision plans make the emirate the smartest and the most sustainable in the world.
Trump agrees to renegotiate NAFTA with Mexico, Canada
US President Donald Trump told the leaders of Mexico and Canada that he would not pull out of the NAFTA treaty for now, but will swiftly begin renegotiating the trilateral deal with them. A White House statement said Trump spoke with both President Enrique Pena Nieto of Mexico and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada over phone and decided not to terminate North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). NAFTA is an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico and the US to create a trilateral trade bloc in North America.
UNESCO to screen Indian short film as part of World Press Freedom Day celebrations
UNESCO to screen Rahul V. Chittella’s short film “Azaad” as a part of World Press Freedom Day event that is scheduled to be held from May 1-4 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The movie is about the dysfunctional relationship between a father and his son. World Press Freedom Day is celebrated by UNESCO to celebrate the principle of freedom of the press. The theme for this year’s edition of World Press Freedom Day is “Critical Minds for Critical Times: Media’s role in advancing peaceful, just and inclusive societies“.

El Salvador becomes 1st country in world to ban metals mining
El Salvador has became the first country in the world to ban the mining of metals in what campaigners called a landmark move for environmental protection. According to the text published yesterday in the official journal the law bans prospection, exploration, exploitation, extraction or processing of metallic minerals in El Salvador. Some Latin American countries thrive on mineral exports but local communities complain of environmental risks from toxic metals used in the process.

Paytm launches Digital Gold; Consumers now buy gold on Paytm
Payments app Paytm on 27 April 2017 launched ‘Digital Gold’ on its platform to allow customers to buy and sell gold through electronic platform. President conferred Jnanpith Award to poet Sankha Ghosh
Sankha Ghosh, eminent Bengali poet and literary critic was honoured with the 52nd Jnanpith Award on 27 April 2017 by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.Speaking on the occasion, the President stated that the professor, who is a recipient of Sahitya Akademi award and the Padma Bhushan, is the most deserving recipient of this award.Pranab Mukherjee further stated that Ghosh’s literary works reflect a rare poetic style that encompasses not only a lyrical style but also a deep reflection of the social milieu. It often takes on the superficiality in the society and is almost akin to candid commentary on contemporary issues.
Bhubaneswar becomes 1st Indian city to win Pierre L'Enfant Awards-2017
Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, on 27 April 2017 was selected for the Pierre L'Enfant Planning Excellence and Achievement Awards-2017. The city was selected for the award for good and advanced town planning and engaging its residents in the planning process. With this, Bhubaneswar became India’s first city to be awarded the prestigious award instituted by the American Planning Association (APA). Bhubaneswar will receive the APA award along with other four awardees on 8 May 2017. The awards will be conferred at an awards luncheon at the association’s National Planning Conference in New York.

U 19 Central Armed Police Forces football meet in Mumbai
An under-19 football tournament, jointly organised by the Central Armed Police Forces will be held in Mumbai from 2nd to 9th May. The OORJA CAPF Youth Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament 2017 is an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be held under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board. All CAPF units that includes CRPF, BSF, CISF, SSB, ITBP and Assam Rifles have been asked to conduct the Oorja CAPF Youth Under-19 tournament in different parts of the country. In Maharashtra, the tournament is being conducted by CISF. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 2 at the Cooperage football ground, which will also host the finals of both boys and girls categories on May 9.

Pankaj Advani will play in the finals of 33rd Asian Snooker Championship in Doha today. He will face China's Lv Haotian. Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of The Silence of the Lambs , passed away on. He was 73. He started his career into feature film working with film producer Roger Corman, co-writing and producing Angels Hard as They Come The Hot Box.
