First Quli Qutb Shah Memorial Lecture of VP Hamid Ansari to be deliverd in  Hyderabad :

Vice President M Hamid Ansari is visiting Hyderabad today to deliver the first Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah Memorial lecture at Moulana Azad National Urdu university. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali and Ministers will also take part in the programme. The Vice President will leave for Delhi in the afternoon, immediately after delivering the lecture.
Padma awards presented by President Pranab Mukherjee to eminent personalities :
President Pranab Mukherjee today conferred the Padma awards to 42 people at a Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Eminent Singer Yesudas, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev were given Padma Vibhushan award.
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Sunder Lal Patwa was given Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Dr Devi Prasad Dwivedi were given Padma Bhushan. Eminent Journalist Cho Ramaswamy was given the award posthumously.
Quota for Muslims, STs to be increased by Telangana Government :
Telangana Government has decided to increase the reservations to backward Muslim population and Scheduled Tribes in the state. State Cabinet that met in Hyderabad last evening has approved raising quota quota to socially and economically backward Muslim population who will be referred as BC-E in the state, besides raising the existing 7.5 per cent quota of the STs to 12 per cent in line with their population.
Announcing the cabinet decisions, Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao said the cabinet will meet again on 15th of this month to determine the percentage of quota to BC-E and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly has been requested to convene a special session to consider the proposed New Telangana Reservation Act.

UP CM Yogi reshuffles major administrate :
In a first major administrate reshuffle, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has shifted 20 Senior IAS officers in Uttar Pradesh. Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan is posted as secretary to the Chief Minister.
Ten officers including Principal Secretary Information Navneet Sehgal, Principal secretary civil aviation Anita Singh, Principal secretary Industrial development Rama Raman, Principal secretary Child Child Welfare and Nutrition Dimple Verma, MD of UPSIDC Amit Kumar Ghosh and VC of Ghaziabad Authority, Vijay Kumar Yadav, have been put on the wait list.

Gujarat Self Financed School (Regulation of Fees) Bill – 2017 got approval Gujarat governor Kohli :
Gujarat Governor O P Kohli today gave his consent to the Gujarat Self Financed School (Regulation of Fees) Bill - 2017, which was passed in the recently concluded budget session of the state assembly. With the consent of the governor, the bill has now become an act. State Education Minister Bhupendra sinh Chudasma has said that it would be in force from the new educational session this year.

11 CPSEs got approval from Cabinet on stock exchanges :
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for listing of 11 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) on stock exchanges. They include Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited and IRCON International Limited.
The listing of CPSEs will be done through public offer of shares upto 25 per cent of Government shareholding, which may include offer of fresh shares for raising of resources from market.
'Areo' app launched by Google India for food delivery, home services :
Google has started rolling out an Android app called 'Areo' in India that lets users order food and hyperlocal home services from local providers. Areo aggregates services like beauty, plumbing, electrical work, fitness training, and physiotherapy among others. Google has reportedly partnered with Indian startups like UrbanClap, FreshMenu, and Faasos to provide the services.

Haryana implements anti-Romeo squads in state :
On the lines of the anti-Romeo squads in Uttar Pradesh, the Haryana government on Wednesday launched 'Operation Durga'. The police teams nabbed 72 people from across the state on the very first day. The teams visited public places such as schools, colleges, bus stands and railway stations, and nabbed persons indulging in crimes against women, a government spokesperson said.

Union Cabinet apprised of MoU between India and Russia for cooperation in Science & Technology :
The Union Cabinet was on 12 April 2017 apprised of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Russia for cooperation in the field of Science and Technology (S&T). The MoU was signed in October 2016.
The MoU is aimed at facilitating and supporting the joint scientific and research activities between scientific organizations that are subordinated to the Agency and scientific organizations and scientists of the Republic of Russian Federation.

Framework of Understanding for hydrocarbon cooperation with Bangladesh got approval from Union Cabinet :
 The Union Cabinet, presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 12 April 2017 approved signing of Framework of Understanding (FoU) on Cooperation in the Hydrocarbon Sector with Bangladesh.
The proposed Framework of Understanding aims to establish a cooperative institutional framework mechanism to facilitate and enhance India-Bangladesh bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

Union Cabinet approves setting up of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy at Visakhapatnam :
The Union Cabinet on 12 April 2017 gave its approval for setting up of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The institute will be set up as "an Institute of National Importance" through an Act of Parliament.
The IIPE will have the governance structure as well as legal mandate to grant degrees in a manner similar to that enjoyed by IITs. A separate Act will also impart the required status to the Institute to become a "Centre of Excellence" in petroleum and energy studies.

Bipartisan delegation to be headed by US House Speaker Ryan :
US House Speaker Paul Ryan will head a bipartisan delegation next week to Europe to meet with leaders of NATO allies including Estonia. Ryan's office said in a statement yesterday, amid Russia's rising tensions with the West, the delegation will travel to Britain, Norway, Poland and Estonia to meet with government officials and military leaders to review and discuss evolving security threats facing Europe as well as opportunities for greater economic cooperation.
Achim Steiner named as new administrator of UNDP by UN chief :
UN chief Antonio Guterres has named a German with extensive experience at the world organization, Achim Steiner, as the new administrator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP).  Headquartered in New York City, the UNDP seeks to reduce poverty, improve social development and encourage women's empowerment. According to a letter by Guterres dated yesterday Steiner, who previously served at the UN Environment Programme and headed the UN office in Kenya, was selected to succeed Helen Clark, a former New Zealand Prime Minister, who has steered the UNDP since 2009.

eNAM transacts record ₹15,000 Cr business in 1 year :
The national agriculture market- eNAM has transacted a record 15 thousand crore rupees business in one year. In April last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Agriculture Market portal eNAM to connect e-mandis in several States.
Additional Secretary of Agriculture Ministry Ashok Dalwai said this after holding the review meeting of Agricultural market reforms and other initiatives to enhance farmers’ income in New Delhi today.
Aditya Birla Nuvo to be merged with Grasim Industries :
The shareholders of Grasim Industries Limited, Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited (ABNL) and Aditya Biral Financial Services Limited (ABFSL) in April 2017 approved the Scheme of amalgamation of ABNL with Grasim. Besides, the shareholders also approved demerger and listing of the Aditya Biral Financial Services Limited, which is a part of the ABFSL.
 The merged entity Grasim will have proforma consolidated turnover of Rs 59,766 crore, EBITDA of Rs 11,961 crore and a net profit of Rs 4,245 crore for the year ended March 2016.

Ravi Venkatesan appoints as Co-chairman of Infosys :
Infosys on Thursday named Ravi Venkatesan, former chairman of Microsoft India, as Co-chairman of its board, where he was already an independent director. The appointment comes after a public disagreement with Co-founder Narayana Murthy, who had raised concerns about the company's governance, and pay hikes of top executives. Notably, Venkatesan has been on the Infosys board since 2011.

Karnataka Bank appoints Mahabaleshwara MS as it's new MD and CEO :
Karnataka Bank Ltd has announced top-level management changes with the present Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of the bank, P Jayarama Bhat, assuming the charge of part-time non-executive Chairman of the bank on Wednesday. The Chief General Manager of the bank, Mahabaleshwara MS, who is appointed as MD and CEO of the bank, will assume office on April 15.
The board of directors of the bank, which met in Mangaluru on Wednesday, appointed Mahabaleshwara as MD and CEO of the bank for a period of three years from the date of assuming charge, as per the approval received from Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which was in accordance with the board’s earlier recommendation.

Malala honoured by Canada with honorary Canadian citizenship :
Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai became only the sixth person to receive honorary Canadian citizenship, as she called on the country to be bold in advocating for girls' education. The Pakistani activist was welcomed to the seat of Canada's democracy by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. At age 19, Yousafzai is the youngest person to speak to Canadian members of parliament and senators in a joint session.
She is also the youngest to receive honorary Canadian citizenship -- a privilege previously granted to five others including Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama and Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi.

Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik receives Padma Shri awards :
Gymnast Dipa Karmakar and wrestler Sakshi Malik were awarded the Padma Shri by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday. Rio Paralympics gold medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu and discus thrower Vikas Gowda were also given the award. The Padma awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day, with Virat Kohli and Deepa Malik also being named.

India-Australia starts partnership to increase cooperation in sports :
India and Australia have started a partnership aimed at increasing cooperation in sports, in the presence of visiting Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and batting great Sachin Tendulkar. Sports Minister Vijay Goel was also present at the launching ceremony in Mumbai today. It will advance India-Australia cooperation in four areas, athlete and coach training and development, sport science, sport governance and integrity, and grassroots participation.
Renowned Malayalam actor Munshi Venu passed away aged 63 :
Malayalam actor Munshi Venu passed away at the age of 63 today due to kidney failure in Thrissur, Kerala. He was reportedly undergoing dialysis since last year. The actor has featured in over 60 Malayalam films. He is known for his performance in films like 'Pachakuthira' (2006), 'Salt 'n' Pepper' (2011), 'Kanyaka Talkies' (2013), among others.
