International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. Money donated by Assam school kids to support build of road, toilets :

The students of Assam Valley School (AVS) at Balipara have contributed 3.5 lakh to pave a 90-metre road to nearby Khelmati weekly market and build toilets for girls from underprivileged families. While the students engaged masons for the work, they also decided to do the bulk of the task themselves by constructing the roads leading to the market in phases.

World record made by 1152 Indians by performing largest Taekwondo display :
The largest Taekwondo display at a single venue consists of 1,152 participants and was achieved at an event held in Hyderabad, as recognised by the Guinness World Records. The event was organised by martial arts teacher Jayanth Reddy in December 2016. To establish the record, all participants had to perform the martial arts routine simultaneously for at least ten minutes.
Govt planned to set up 7 Research parks to boost startups at IITs, IISc :
The government is planning to set up 7 Research parks at IITs, IISc for startups to propel innovation. IIT Kharagpur already has a functional Park and the remaining will be created by Ministry of Human Resource Development at IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IISc Bangalore. IIT Gandhinagar’s Research park is being set up by DST.
Raj Bhawan in Goa turned as  cashless :
The Raj Bhawan in Goa has turned cashless with all their transactions including household expenses and tour expenditures shifting from regular to plastic money, starting Monday. Governor Mridula Sinha made the first transaction to mark the occasion. The Goa government had announced that the coastal state will increasingly opt for cashless transactions.

'BharatQR' QR code launched by Govt for cashless payments :
The government on Monday launched a QR (quick response) code-based payment solution called BharatQR to allow cashless payments without a card swiping machine. BharatQR has been jointly developed by MasterCard, Visa and Rupay. A customer will scan the BharatQR code to pay directly to a merchant. Currently, BharatQR is integrated into ICICI Bank’s Pockets app and HDFC Bank’s PayZapp.
Railway network to link Kathmandu to Delhi, Kolkata aimed by Indian Govt :
India is keen on linking Nepal's capital Kathmandu with New Delhi and Kolkata through a railway network. This was stated by Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu while addressing the Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017 in Kathmandu yesterday. He said, if the two countries could build the railway tracks connecting Kathmandu with Delhi and Kolkata soon, it would increase Nepal's connectivity with India.

New layout for recording, reporting road accident data released by Govt :
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways today released the new format for recording and reporting road accident data. Addressing media in New Delhi, Senior Advisor of Transport Reseach Wing in the Ministry Kirti Saxena said, the uniform format has been drawn on the lines of developed countries and will require the police, transport department and other agencies concerned to factor in circumstances such as road conditions, visibility, signage and weather that led to an accident and not merely putting the blame on the driver.
Govt of Tamil Nadu announces Rs 2247 cr as drought relife fund for farmers :
Tamil Nadu government has announced a financial package of 2247 crore rupees for farmers who have lost their crops due to drought. In a statement today, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy said more than 32 lakh farmers will be given the compensation package by crediting the amount in their bank accounts directly.
He said the assistance is at the rate of 5465 rupees per acre of paddy and other irrigation-dependent crops, 3000 rupees per acre for rain-fed crops and 7287 rupees per acre for long term crops.

Digi Dhan Mela organised by govt in Agartala of Tripura :
The Tripura Government is organising a Digi-Dhan Mela in Agartala today and the objective is to encourage, guide and engage the citizens, customers and merchants to increasingly shift towards cashless payment mode across the state. AIR correspondent reports that The present two schemes of the central govt. namely Lucky Grahak Yojana for Consumers and Digi-DhanVyapar Yojana for Merchants, seek to nudge people towards significantly higher usage of digital transactions through the offer of incentives.

Aadhaar Bill, 2017 passed in Assembly of Gujarat :
The Gujarat Assembly today passed "The Gujarat Aadhaar Bill, 2017 " which will empower the state government to use Aadhaar number as the sole identifier for the delivery of various subsidies and benefits in an effective and targeted manner.
While presenting the bill, the deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel stated that linking the Aadhhaar number with various schemes will help the government create a credible system to authenticate the identity of actual beneficiaries.

ISRO staff offered free pizzas by Pizza Hut to on historical record launch :
To celebrate the success of Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) record launch of 104 satellites in one go, Pizza Hut offered free pizzas to ISRO employees across the country on Monday. Pizza Hut invited ISRO employees to select stores and treated them to a Pan Pizza. Notably, the chain offered free pizzas worth 6 lakh to over 2,000 ISRO employees.

China streets implemented by Robot police officers for patrolling :
China has appointed 1.6 metre-tall self-driving robot police officers with electric riot control tool to patrol the streets. One of the robots appointed at a Chinese railway station can facially recognise the staff with their work passes. Besides fighting crime, the robots are also capable of monitoring air quality, temperature, and track potential safety hazards, fires, and criminal activities.

Idea of  Apex bank varies from that of payments sector should be freed of licensing mechanism: RBI
RBI's Deputy Governor R Gandhi has said that the apex bank differs from the idea that payments sector should be freed of licensing mechanism.
He was speaking to reporters after the launch of BharatQR, an inter-operable and low cost payment acceptance solution, developed by National Payments Corporation of India in Mumbai today. Mr. Gandhi said ‘fit and proper’ criterion is important for entities that wish to provide payment services as they will be entrusted with public money.

RelianceJio to start charging for data from Apr 1, voice calls to stay free :
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Tuesday announced that Reliance will start charging for data from its customers from April 1. However, all domestic voice calls to any network will be free across India, and there will be no roaming charges. Notably, Jio has achieved its target of 100 million subscribers within 170 days of its launch.
Merger talks initiated between  RCom, Tata Teleservices to compete Jio :
Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices have initiated talks for a merger to counter Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio, according to reports. Anil Ambani initiated talks with Tata Sons Chairman-designate N Chandrasekaran to take on Reliance Jio as a combined entity, reports said. Notably, the reports come after Vodafone India confirmed merger talks with Idea to create India's largest operator.

3 MoUs signed between India and Rwanda to boost bilateral relations :
India and Rwanda on Tuesday signed three MoUs for promoting innovation, easing visa requirements and boosting air connectivity between the two countries. India-Rwanda Innovation Growth Programme was launched to expand ties in science, technology and innovation, Vice President Hamid Ansari said. India also offers fellowships and scholarships to Rwandan students to pursue higher studies in India.

N Chandrasekaran today took over as Chairman of Tata Sons, the principal investment holding company for over 100 Tata firms. Ahead of his first board meeting in the position, Chandrasekaran said, "Will do everything we need to do, to delight people who are proud of the group." Chandrasekaran will be the first non-Parsi chairman of the near 150-year-old Tata group.

V Ramakrishnan appointed as CFO of Tata Consultancy Services :
IT services major Tata Consultancy Services on Monday announced the appointment of V Ramakrishnan as its Chief Financial Officer effective February 21. Lt. Gen. Herbert Raymond McMaster appointed as new National Security Advisor by US President Trump :
US President Donald Trump has appointed Lt Gen Herbert Raymond McMaster as his new National Security Advisor following the ouster of Michael Flynn last week. Making the announcement at his residence in Florida, Mr Trump described McMaster, currently Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center, as a man of tremendous talent and experience.
Flynn had been forced out by Mr Trump following revelations that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about discussing sanctions with Russia's ambassador to the US during the presidential transition.

Virat Kohli has become the first Indian athlete to sign a deal worth over 100 crore with a brand, after signing up with Puma. With the reportedly eight-year-long deal, Kohli will join Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Thierry Henry as Puma's global ambassador. Puma will launch a signature line of sports lifestyle products with a special logo and brand identity.
Vitaly Churkin  Russia's ambassador to UN, passed away :
Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, died after falling ill in his office in New York today.He was 64. Russia's deputy UN ambassador, Vladimir Safronkov, told the news agency that Churkin, was rushed to a hospital in New York, where he died.
A veteran diplomat known as a potent and personable voice for his country's interests at the UN, Vitaly Churkin, had been Russia's envoy at the United Nations since 2006 Diplomatic colleagues from around the world mourned Churkin as a powerful and passionate voice for his nation, with both a deep knowledge of diplomacy and a large and colorful personality.
