Solutions:
1).  Let the pipe P2 is closed after ‘x’ mins
x [(1/24) + (1/30)] + (20 - x) × (1/24) = 1
= (3x/40) + (5/6) – (x/24) = 1
= (9x – 5x) / 120 = 1 – (5/6) = 1/6
= (4x / 120) = 1/6
x = 120 / (6 × 4)= 5 min
Answer: b)
2). Let Ravi takes ‘x’ days to finish the work, so Mohan will take (x - 8) days to finish the work.
(1/x) + [1/(x - 8)] = 2/15    (i. e Ravi + Mohan 1 day work)
(2x - 8) / (x2 – 8x) = 2/15      (x - 4) ×15 = x2 - 8x
 x2 - 23 x + 60 = 0              x2 - 20x - 3 x + 60 = 0
x ( x - 20) - 3 ( x - 20) = 0
 x = 20, 3
We discard x = 3 as it is less than 8.
x = 20 days
Answer: c)
3). Let cost is ‘x’               S.P = 17x/20
Now, C. P = 4x/5
S. P = (17x / 20) + 147.2 = (17x + 2944) / 20
{ [(17x + 2944) / 20] – (4x / 5) } × (5/4x) × 100 = 35
[(17x + 2944 – 16x) / 20] × (125 / x) = 35
[(x + 2944) / 4] × (25/x) = 35
25x + 73600 = 140x ,
73600/115 = 640
Answer: d)
4). Let the amount is ‘x’ = [(x × 12 × 7) / 100]  × [(x × 12 × 4.5) / 100] = 585
x (84 - 54) = 58500
x = 58500 / 30 = 1950
Answer: d)
5). C. I for third year is 3512320 - 3136000 = 376320
Which is S. I for Rs. 3136000 in one year.
r = (376320 × 100) / (3136000 × 1) = 12% p.a.
Answer: d)
6). Cost of first item = (667 × 100) / 116 = 575
Profit = 667 - 575 = 92
Let the cost of second item is ‘x’
Answer: b)
7).  Let the quantity of milk and water are 4x and 3x respectively
4x / (3x + 5) = 9/8, 32x = 27x + 45
x = 45/5= 9
Quantity of water = 3x = 27 litres.
Answer: e)
8). First the six men can sit on round table in (6 - 1)! = 5!ways
Now for no two women adjacent, there are six vacant seat between each pair of men.
So number of ways 6 women can sit on these six vacant seat is 6P6 = 6! ways
So total number of arrangements = 5! ×6! = 120×720 = 86400
Answer: b)
9). n(S) = 6×6 = 36
n (E) = 4 à { (3,6)(4,5)(5,4)(6,3)}      P(E) = 4/36 = 1/9
Answer: e)
10).  Req. No. of days = (15 × 25) / 40 = 75/8 = 9  3/8days

Answer: c)
