Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Keeping safety on the rails"
  • Keeping on the rails - to make something working or happening normally again
  • Derailment - the action of a train leaving its tracks accidentally
  • Carriage - one of the vehicles that are joined together to make a train
  • Wagon - a large open container that is pulled by a train and is used for carrying goods

  • Equitable - fair and reasonable because everyone is treated in the same way
  • Comfortable - feeling physically relaxed, without any pain or other unpleasant feelings
  • Pursuing - to follow a course of activity
  • Initiative - an important action that is intended to solve a problem
  • Non-lapsable - without any errors
  • Corpus - an amount of money that you collect, save, or invest
  • Transparent - open and honest, without secrets
  • Framework - a system of rules, laws, agreements etc that establish the way that something operates in business, politics, or society
  • Rely - to depend on something
  • Obligation - something that you must do for legal or moral reasons
  • Ageing - too old and no longer useful
  • Kept pace with - to develop or progress at the same rate as something else
  • Leap - to move / jump somewhere suddenly and quickly
  • Zero tolerance - a policy of punishing people for even very minor offences by using the law in a very strict way
  • Ultrasonic - ultrasonic sounds are sounds that humans cannot hear because they have very high frequencies
  • Flaw - a mistake or fault in something that makes it useless or less effective

  • Artistry - great skill in a sport or profession
  • Prevailed - to be the strongest influence or element in a situation
  • Dominance - a situation in which one person or thing has more influence or power than any other
  • Nostalgia - thoughts about happy times in your past, often mixed with the wish to be back in the past
  • Evoked - to bring a particular emotion, idea, or memory into your mind
  • Thrill - to make someone feel very excited and pleased
  • Resurgence - the start of something again that quickly increases in influence, effect etc
  • Instinctive - done without thinking, because of a natural tendency or ability
  • Attuned - familiar with something and able to deal with it in a sensitive way
  • Ruthlessness - willing to make other people suffer so that you can achieve your aims
  • Marginally - by only a very small amount
  • Precisely - exactly
  • Injury - physical damage done to a person or a part of their body
  • Bruising - damage to someone’s reputation or confidence
  • Rally - a public meeting that a lot of people go to in order to support someone or something or to protest against someone or something
  • Overcome - to succeed in dealing with or controlling a problem
  • Formidable - causing you to have fear or respect for something or someone because that thing or person is large, powerful, or difficult
  • Athleticism - physical strength and the ability to do sports and physical exercises well
  • Apparent - easy to see or understand
  • Facet - an aspect of something such as a situation or someone’s character
  • Underrated - having more importance, value, skill, power, etc., than people recognize
  • Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
  • Triumph - a great victory or success
  • Quietened - to make somebody calm
  • Persistent - continuing to exist, especially for longer than you would like
