A stand in Eden Gardens to be named after Sourav Ganguly
Ex-India captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly will have a stand named after him at Kolkata's Eden Gardens stadium. The announcement was made after the CAB authorities received permission from the Army, who is the custodian of the property where the stadium is located. A stand will also be named after late BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya.
Rs.500 crore requested by Karnataka CM from Centre for Jain festival:
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley, seeking a grant of Rs.500 crore for the 10-day Mahamastakabhisheka festival. The next edition of Mahamastakabhisheka, a Jain festival that honours Lord Bahubali and is held once every 12 years in Shravanabelagola, will take place in February 2018. The Centre had granted Rs.90 crore for its last edition.

Himachal Pradesh declared Dharamshala as second capital of the state:
Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh on Thursday declared Dharamshala as the second capital of the state. Adding that Dharamshala has a history of its own, the CM said it fully deserved to be the second capital after Shimla. The Himachal government is expected to make Dharamshala its winter capital and shift the government to Dharamshala for two months in winter.

Transcend 2017 to be hosted in SIBM Pune on January 20-22

Rs 2,207cr fund announced by central govt to J&K as special assistance during current financial year
Centre has sanctioned over 2,207 crore rupees to Jammu and Kashmir as special assistance during current financial year to expedite completion of area-specific schemes. This includes over 1093 crore rupees for permanent restoration of damaged structure in the state.
Finance Ministry in a release said, the Centre has also decided to provide further special assistance of over 1,129 crore rupees to Bihar during 2016-17 for completion of the approved ongoing projects under special plan for Bihar. It said, with this the centre has so far released over 6,934 crore rupees to Bihar.

1st strategic dialogue takes place between India and UAE today
Ahead of the visit of the UAE crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan , who will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day function this year, India UAE is scheduled to hold their first strategic dialogue in New Delhi today.
According to sources, the meeting will be presided over by minister of state for external affairs MJ Akbar, and Anwar Mohammed Gargash, minister of state for foreign affairs of the UAE. Ever since the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to UAE in August 2015 , the first by any Indian premier in 34 years, the two countries have been working on strengthening their bilateral relationship.

Over Rs.1,300 cr got sanctioned from World Bank to Tripura for power infra
The World Bank has sanctioned Rs.1,376 crore for the complete upgradation and improvement of the power system network in Tripura, state Power Minister Manik Dey said on Thursday. The project has been divided into five phases and SPML Infra Ltd has bagged the contract for the first phase. The first phase would cost around Rs.461 crore.

Malaysia  govt announces cash reward for information about missing MH370
Malaysia's Deputy Transport Minister Aziz Kaprawi on Thursday announced a cash reward to private parties who can provide "substantial information or evidence" about the location of the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight, MH370. The search for MH370 was suspended on Tuesday after the underwater hunt concluded without success. The missing flight had disappeared in March 2014 with 239 on board.

Donald Trump today sworn in as 45th President of United States of America
Donald Trump will be sworn-in as 45th President of the United States today He will assume office just ten weeks after stunning America and the world by winning the US Presidential election. Chief Justice of Supreme Court John Roberts will administer him the oath of office using a Trump family bible and one known as the Lincoln Bible. Mr Trump will replace Barack Obama in the White House.

Gambia's new President Adama Barrow's resolution got backed by UN Security Council
United Nation's Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution expressing full support to Gambia's new President Adama Barrow and calling on ex-leader Yahya Jammeh to step down.
The UN resolution also condemned Yahya Jammeh's attempts to usurp power. A last-minute revision to the resolution after Barrow took the oath of office yesterday backed efforts by the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) to ensure that Barrow's election victory is respected. The deputy ambassadors of Russia and Britain said that Barrow is now president and he can ask ECOWAS for military action to oust Jammeh.

Net profit of Axis Bank plunges 73 per cent in December quarter
India's third largest private lender Axis Bank has reported a 73% year-on-year fall in net profit for the quarter ended December to Rs.579.6 crore. However, the total income of the bank increased by 15.7% to Rs.14,501 crore during the period under review. The fall in profits was attributed to a rise in bad loans.

Under GST, up to Rs.2 crore of tax evasion is a bailable offence
The government has decided that in case of tax evasion by traders that does not exceed Rs.2 crore, the person arrested for violation of GST laws will be entitled to bail, an official said. Further, the GST Council has decided that the provision for arrest will be restricted to forgery and non-deposit of collected taxes within the stipulated timeframe.

NPCI requests ICICI to allow transaction from Flipkart's PhonePe:
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the developer of the interface that allows customers to transfer money across banks, has asked ICICI Bank to stop blocking transactions from Flipkart’s payments app PhonePe. Nearly a week ago, ICICI had temporarily blocked transactions from PhonePe, pending the resolution of its concerns related to restrictive practices followed by the app.

First flight to take off in February 2017 under UDAN scheme :
The first flight is likely to take off next month under the government's ambitious regional connectivity scheme-UDAN. The scheme UDAN (Ude Desh Ke Aam Naagrik), seeks to boost regional air connectivity and provides various incentives to airlines. The fare for a one hour journey of approximately 500 kilometre on a fixed wing aircraft or for a 30 minute journey on a helicopter will be capped at two thousand 500 rupees under the scheme.

Alok Verma present Delhi police commissioner, appointed as a new CBI chief: 
A three-member panel headed by PM Narendra Modi on Thursday appointed Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma as the new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director for a two-year term, reports said. Verma, who is a 1979 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has not served with the CBI earlier and has only worked with the Vigilance Bureau.

2nd edition of Pro Wrestling League title won by Punjab Royals
Punjab Royals came back twice from behind to defeat Haryana Hammers 5-4 in the final of the Pro Wrestling League in Delhi on Thursday and claim the title. Rio Olympics gold medalist and Punjab captain Vladimir Khinchegashvili defeated Haryana's Sandeep Tomar in one of the final bouts. Punjab were runners-up in the last edition of the tournament.
Indian footballer Jayesh Raimalani signs for Barcelona-based football team
Jayesh Raimalani, a young Indian footballer, has joined Barcelona-based football team 'Club Esportiu Jupiter', which plays in the fourth division of Spanish football. Raimalani is a former student of Ajmer's Mayo College and has reportedly been training in Europe for the last two years. The deal was facilitated by an Indo-Spanish football venture called Spaindia Football, based out of Barcelona.
