World's longest moustache record holded by Ram Singh Chauhan of Rajasthan
Ram Singh Chauhan from Rajasthan, India has the world's longest moustache measuring 14 feet, as of March 2010, according to the Guinness World Records. Chauhan has reportedly been growing his moustache for more than 30 years. He established the record on the set of the Italian TV show 'Lo Show dei Record' in Rome, Italy.
Gujarat govt employees get pay hike of up to 124%
The Gujarat government on Wednesday approved a pay hike for its employees ranging between 63% to124%, which will reflect in their salaries from February 1. The hike was decided as per the pay matrix of the Seventh Pay Commission, Deputy CM Nitin Patel said. This move would reportedly benefit over 1.18 lakh fixed-pay employees and comes following protests by them.

Union HRD Minister launches 'ShaGun' web portal for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
For continuous monitoring of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday launched a dedicated web portal 'ShaGun', which has been prepared in collaboration with the World Bank. The portal will assess the performance of states and union territories on key parameters. It would also contain a repository of positive stories in the field of education.

Indian Army to get helmets of 1.58 lakh that can withstand 9mm bullet :
The Indian Army has contacted Kanpur-based MKU Industries to manufacture 1.58 lakh helmets, that can bear the impact of 9mm ammunition fired from a short range, in a deal worth around Rs.170 crore, reports said. MKU, which exports body armours worldwide, will deliver the helmets within three years. Reportedly, this is Army's first large-scale order of helmets in two decades.
For safety of it's delivery staff Flipkart launches mobile app with SOS button
E-commerce platform Flipkart has launched an SOS feature on the mobile app meant for its delivery staff which will alert the nearest field executives in case of an emergency. The project has been titled 'Nanjunda' after a delivery man who was murdered in Bengaluru last month by a gym trainer who did not have money to pay for his order.

'Research Park' for startups to be build at IIT Bombay:
Indian Institute of Bombay is set to build a 'Research Park' for startups, and set up R&D centres in the institute for promoting entrepreneurship. The development will help students get an industrial exposure into real-world applications of their chosen fields. The innovation hub will be located on the outskirts of the campus and is scheduled to be completed by 2023.
28th Dantan Gramin Mela starts today in West Bengal
President Pranab Mukherjee is due to inaugurate the 28th Dantan Gramin Mela in West Midnapore district in West Bengal in a few hours time.
He is on a 4-day visit to West Bengal. The fair will display the rural handicraft skills of the people of the region. The different goods ranging from textile to terracotta will be on display.
Resolution on return of Kashmiri Pandits back to Kashmir got passed in J&K Legislative Assembly
The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution on the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits and other migrants back to Kashmir valley.
As soon as the house met this morning, leader of opposition Omar Abdullah raised the issue. The motion was later endorsed and moved by the speaker of the house Kavinder Gupta.

Consumers, merchants win prizes worth Rs 61 cr in Digi Dhan Melas:
Over three lakh 80 thousand consumers and twenty one thousand merchants have won prize money worth around 61 crore rupees at 24 Digi-Dhan Melas across the country.
This was disclosed by the Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi yesterday. He said, government’s efforts to give a boost to the digital payment systems and cashless economy have evoked good response from the people.
Mr Prasad said, people from different age groups, occupations and walks of life have taken part in a big way in the Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana giving a fillip to digital transactions.
Jaipur Literature festival begins today :
In Rajasthan, the five day Jaipur literature festival began today in Jaipur where a large number of literature lovers are being seen. Popular poet Gulzar, spiritual Guru Jaggi Vasudev and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje inaugurated the festival.
At the inauguration session, poet Gulzar requested the organizers to promote literature written in any local Indian language in festival every year.

Venezuela authorises new currency notes, coins:
Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro on Monday authorised new banknotes ranging from 500 to 20,000 bolivars to deal with the soaring inflation in the country. He also extended the deadline for exchanging 100 bolivar notes, formerly the highest denomination in the country, for the third time until February 20. Notably, inflation in Venezuela is expected to reach 1,600% this year.

HDFC cuts lending rate by 0.15 per cent for existing customers
Mortgage lender HDFC Ltd has reduced its retail prime lending rate (RPLR) by 0.15 per cent with effect from today, HDFC Ltd said in a statement. The reduction in RPLR will also be applicable on loans to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)/PIO’s card holders, it said.
It had already reduced the lending rate for new borrowers earlier this month. Interest rate on loans up to Rs 75 lakh was reduced to 8.7 per cent per annum, while for higher amount it came down to 8.75 per cent. A woman applicant gets a discount of 0.05 per cent in interest rate.

Google buys Twitter's mobile app tool 'Fabric'
Search giant Google, which earlier stepped away from buying Twitter, on Thursday acquired the micro-blogging site's mobile app developer platform 'Fabric' for an undisclosed amount. Twitter launched Fabric in 2014 to allow developers to pick and choose different tools to improve their apps. Google will continue to operate Fabric and its related tools.

Scientists have named three relatively little-known diseases they think could cause the next global health emergency.
A coalition of governments and charities has committed 460 million dollars to speed up vaccine development for Mers, Lassa fever and Nipah virus. They are asking funders at the World Economic Forum Davos for another 500 million dollars.

Priyanka wins favourite TV actress at People's Choice Awards
Priyanka Chopra has won the 'Favourite Dramatic TV Actress' award for her role in Quantico at the 2017 People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles. This is Priyanka's second People's Choice award, after winning the 'Favourite Actress in a New TV Series' award last year for the same series. Priyanka plays FBI recruit Alex Parrish in the American drama series.

65-year-old sets record at National Shooting Championship
Nirmal Yadav, a 65-year-old woman shooter from Delhi, set a record at the recently-concluded National Shooting Championship in Pune. She shot 341/400 in the Veteran Women's 10-metre Air Pistol event to claim the national record in the category. Nirmal, wife of a former Major General, started shooting two years back and has won gold at a national championship last year.
