Foundation stone has been layed for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial by PM Modi
The Prime Minister who visits Mumbai has, laid the foundation stone for the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on an island off the Mumbai coast. Then Mr Modi also inaugurated the newly-built campus of the National Institute of Securities Management in Raigad.
Later , he laid the foundation stones of two metro corridors, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, and the foundation stone for Pune Metro rail project in pune.
BJP's Parivartan Yatra to culminate in Lucknow today after covering 18,000 km around UP​
The BJP's four Parivartan Yatras will culminate at Hazratganj crossing, near the BJP state headquarters after covering 18,000 kilometres in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. The mega event in Lucknow will be attended by senior BJP leaders like Rajnath Singh, Kalraj Mishra, Uma Bharti, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Om Mathur among others.
These Yatras​ were start​ed​ ​by the party ​from different parts of the state ​to cover all 403 assembly segments in the state. BJP also used these yatras to gather feedback about candidate selection in many assembly segments.
3.5 MW Solar power project starts at HAL airport in Bengaluru
In an initiative to harness renewable energy, a 3.5 MW solar power project was inaugurated on Friday at the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) airport in Bengaluru, according to reports. The project is reportedly spread over 23 acres of land with around 12,985 solar modules. Notably, HAL is aimed at establishing 50 MW of renewable energy in the next two years.
 INTERNATIONAL:
Nepal bans new Indian Rs. 500, Rs. 2,000 notes
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday banned the use of India’s new notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2,000, terming them “unauthorised and illegal” said these new notes were not yet legal in Nepal, according to Onlinekhabar.com. NRB spokesperson Mr.Narayan Poudel said these notes would be legal in Nepal only when India issued a notification as per the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
Earlier, a ban was in effect in Nepal till 2015 against the use of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes.
The authorities had lifted this ban after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal.
Defence bill regards to  security co-op between India and US is Signed by Obama
National Defence Authorisation Act 2017 which asks US Defence Secretary and Secretary of State to take necessary steps to recognise India as America's major defence partner has been signed by US President Barack.
The Act also asks the US administration to designate an individual, within the executive branch, who has experience in defence acquisition and technology, to ensure the success of the framework for US-India Defence Relationship.
India agreed to supply additional 240 MW power to Nepal
Inorder to reduce the power shortage an agreement was signed in New Delhi on Thursday between Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and state-owned NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), in which India has agreed to export 240 MW of electricity additionally to Nepal.
A press release issued by the Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA) in Kathmandu said the import of 80 MW power immediately from January and 160 MW from February will be made through Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur Cross Border Transmission line which was inaugurated in February.
The Hijacked Airbus A320 Libyan plane got surrendered by hijackers, all passengers freed
The Hijacked domestic Libyan flight of Afriqiyah Airways which has been flying from Sebha in southwest Libya to Tripoli with 111 passengers, including an infant, and seven crew members was diverted to Malta where it landed earlier today , and the passengers have been freed.
The hijackers, reportedly, are now negotiating for asylum in Malta. The Malta airport authority said all emergency teams had been dispatched to the site.
Aresolution is passed in UNSC, demanding end to Israeli settlement building on occupied Palestinian territory
The UN Security Council last night passed a resolution demanding Israel to stop building settlements on occupied Palestinian territory. It is the first resolution the Security Council has adopted on Israel and the Palestinians in nearly eight years.
The resolution was put forward at the 15-member council for a vote by New Zealand, Malaysia, Venezuela and Senegal. Israel and US President-elect Donald Trump had called on the United States to veto the measure.

Govt directs Amul  and other cooperatives to open bank accounts for milk producers
The Centre has asked dairy major Amul to open bank accounts for all milk producers by 30th of this month and other cooperatives by 30th of January next year to ensure smooth payment to farmers post-demonetisation. Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation sells milk and other dairy products under Amul brand.
It said, instructions have been issued to all the agencies. There are 1.70 lakh Dairy Co-operative Societies at village level having 1.6 crore milk producers affiliated with 218 milk unions.
Japan drags India to WTO against steps on iron, steel imports
Japan has dragged India to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) against certain measures taken by New Delhi on imports of iron and steel products.
“On December 20, Japan notified the WTO Secretariat that it had requested dispute consultations with India in the dispute ‘India-Certain Measures on Imports of Iron and Steel Products’,” the WTO has said.
India has imposed minimum import price (MIP) on imports of certain iron and steel products.India has also imposed anti-dumping duties on certain steel products to guard domestic players from cheap imports.
Maruti to invest Rs.2,000 cr. in R&D center
Maruti Suzuki, which announced an additional investment of Rs.2,000 crore at its R&D center in Haryana taking that total investment in the centre to over Rs 3,700 crore, said it saw a 20 per cent decline in bookings last month due to demonetisation and the initial negative impact of the move was now getting reversed.
The country’s largest carmaker has seen a 7 per cent rise in bookings year-on-year till December 22, Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava said. He, however, pointed out that the double digit dip in November bookings was also due to high base of November 2015, which was the Diwali month. This year Diwali was in October.

Canada-based scientists developed 1st functional pacemaker cells made from human stem cells
Canada-based scientists have developed the first functional pacemaker cells using human stem cells, which have been shown to regulate heart beats in rats just like a biological pacemaker. A pacemaker is a device which is placed in the chest or abdomen to help control abnormal heartbeats using low-energy electrical impulses. The development could lead to an alternate biological pacemaker therapy.
Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon successfully tested by DRDO
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight tested the Smart Anti-field Weapon (SAAW) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur off Odisha coast. Capable of engaging ground targets with high precision covering a range of around 100 km, SAAW precision-guided bomb is an indigenous designed and developed class smart weapon weighing 120 kg.

Indian cricket team won U-19 Asia Cup consecutively 3rd Time
The Indian Under-19 cricket team beat Sri Lanka by 34 runs on Friday to win the 2016 edition of the Youth Asia Cup, their third consecutive title win. Driven by 70s from Himanshu Rana and Shubman Gill, India posted 273/8 in 50 overs. In Sri Lanka's innings, Rahul Chahar's figures of 3/22 in 10 overs helped India clinch the title.
6-red Snooker the National title won by Pankaj Advani
Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani has ended the year on a high by bagging the National title in 6-red Snooker, the shorter format of the game. In the final in Mumbai today, Advani was up against local youngster Ishpreet Chadha. The multiple world champion overcame his junior opponent 7-4 in a strong display of potting with finesse.
Advani is now the strongest contender for qualifying for the Asian and World Championships in 6-red Snooker in 2017 to represent India.
Olympics: 28 Russians face action over tampered Sochi samples
International Olympic Committee has launched an inquiry into 28 Russians suspected of tampering with doping samples at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in a new blow to Russia's efforts to redeem its name.
IOC has also ordered new testing of all samples from Russians at Sochi, the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games and the 2012 London Olympics. IOC said disciplinary proceedings against the 28 were ordered following McLaren's latest report for the World Anti-Doping Agency released on December 9.
NASA astronaut and Climate Scientist Mr.Piers Sellers, Dies At 61
British-born astronaut Piers Sellers has died of pancreatic cancer, aged 61, NASA has said. Sellers, a climate scientist and former astronaut gained fame late in life for his eloquent commentary about the earth’s fragility.
The British-born space scientist, who flew on three space shuttle missions between 2002 and 2010, died on Friday in Houston, Texas, the BBC reported.
Chetan Ramarao: Veteran Kanada actor passes away at age 76
Veteran Kannada film actor Chetan Ramarao (76) passed away at a private hospital here on Friday night.
Ramarao had acted in more than 350 films in his career spanning almost five decades. He has acted in films featuring several leading actors including Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan and Ambarish.
