DAYS TO REMEMBER:
Goa celebrating 55th Liberation Day
i) Goa celebrates its 55th Liberation Day today. Goa was liberated on this day in 1961 from Portugues rule. The main state level function will be held at 9.15 AM at Athletic Stadium in Bambolim where Chief Minister LaxmikantParsekar will unfurl the national flag.
ii) He will also present awards to those who have contributed and excelled in different fields. Several programmes have been organised at District and Taluka levels to mark the occasion.
International Migrants Day: 18th December
i) According to a Global Commission on International Migration report in 2005, the number of international migrants increased from 75 million to about 200 million in the past 30 years and migrants could be found in every part of the world.
ii) The report also found that the migration could accelerate due to the growing developmental, demographic and democratic disparities that existed between different world regions.
iii) Moreover, migration is driven by powerful economic, social and political forces that governments need to acknowledge as a reality. 
iv) The United Nations' (UN) International Migrants Day is annually held on December 18 to recognize the efforts, contributions and rights of migrants worldwide.
PradhanMantriGaribKalyanYojana comes into effect
i) The PradhanMantriGaribKalyanYojana (PMGKY) comes into effect today. Any unaccounted cash or deposit in a bank account can be disclosed under the scheme before April 1, 2017. The PMKGY provides for 50 per cent tax and surcharge on declarations of unaccounted cash deposited in banks.
ii) Briefing reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Revenue Secretary HasmukhAdhia said, declaration of undisclosed income under it can be made by any person in the form of cash or deposits in an account with bank or post office or a specified entity.
iii) The scheme will continue till 31st of March next year. He said, the money generated from disclosure of unaccounted cash will be used for this yojana. He said, declarations under new black money disclosure scheme will be kept confidential.
Union Minister Vijay Goel inaugurates conference on Youth Development
i) Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel today inaugurated the Conference on Youth Development in Delhi.
ii) Addressing the gathering, Mr. Goel emphasized on the efficiency of youth and how it can be utilised for the development of the country. He urged youth to perform to the best of their ability in various sectors like community development, education, social justice and entrepreneurship among others.
iii) The Youth Development conference was organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and National Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
‘SwasthyaRakshaProgramme’ launched by the AYUSH Ministry to promote health and health education in villages
i) SwasthyaRakshan Program has been initiated through Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) and Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) in selected districts/ villages with the following aims and objectives:-
·         To organize SwasthyaRakshan OPDs, SwasthyaParikshan Camps and Health/Hygiene awareness programme
·         Awareness about cleanliness of domestic surroundings and environment.
·         Provide medical aid/incidental support in the adopted Colonies/villages.
·         Documentation of demographic information, food habits, hygiene conditions, seasons, lifestyle etc., incidence/prevalence of disease and their relation to the incidence of disease.
·         Assessment of health status and propagation of Ayurvedic concept of pathya-apathya and extension of health care services.
Govt writes to States, UTs to implement SC's order on national anthem
i) Government has written to States and Union territories for necessary action on Supreme Court’s order regarding National Anthem of India. Home Ministry has asked Chief Secretaries of all the States to take necessary action in this regard.
ii) Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered all the cinema halls in the country to play the National Anthem before the start of the feature film. All present in the hall are obliged to stand up to show respect to the National Anthem. 
iii) It said, the entry and exit doors shall remain closed prior to the National Anthem is played or sung in the cinema hall, so that no disturbance is created. 
INTERNATIONAL:
India-Nepal Folk Crafts Festival kicks off in Kathmandu
i) The India-Nepal Folk Crafts Festival, an initiative of South Asia Foundation to promote cultural exchanges between the two neighbours, began in Kathmandu today.
ii) The festival, from December 19 to 23, is with the objective to promote crafts based bilateral relations and enhance cultural exchanges between the artisans of India and Nepal.
iii) The India-Nepal crafts festival highlights more than 70 theme based pavilion with emphasis on folk crafts of India and Nepal, cultural programmes and trade facilitation, among others.
BANKING NEWS:
Ukraine nationalises country's largest bank
i) Ukraine has nationalised the country's largest bank in an attempt to avert a financial meltdown in the war-scarred former Soviet state.
ii) The government moved to take over PrivatBank after months of rumors that the lender was heavily burdened by bad debts.
iii) Kiev's decision falls in line with International monetary Fund's demands for Ukraine to stabilise its financial sector in order to achieve sustainable growth.
iv) PrivatBank controls one-third of the east European country's bank deposits and even has branches in the Baltic states.
BUSINESS NEWS:
YES Bank, Ola tie up to provide cash at your doorstep
i) YES Bank, India’s fifth largest private sector bank has partnered with Ola, one of the popular mobile apps for transportation, to provide cash-on-demand at customer’s doorstep.
ii) Customers will be able to use the Ola app to book a cab and opt for ‘cash at their doorsteps’ that will be enabled using Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines powered by YES Bank.
iii) The bank, in a statement, said the service will be available across 10 cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Jaipur.

Actor Priyanka Chopra to be brand ambassador for Assam tourism
i) Actor Priyanka Chopra will be the brand ambassador for Assam tourism.State Tourism minister HimantaBiswaSarma said that she would work to promote Assam tourism globally.
ii) The Minister said that the Assam government have made an agreement with her for two years.

Miss World 2016: Puerto Rico's Stephanie Del Valle takes the crown
i) Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico was crowned Miss World 2016 on Sunday, edging out runners-up from the Dominican Republic and Indonesia winning the top prize in the 66th edition of the pageant held this year in the United States.
ii) Del Valle, 19, is a brown-eyed brunette student who speaks Spanish, English and French, and hopes to get into the entertainment industry.
iii) First runner-up of the 2016 edition of the pageant held at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, was YaritzaMiguelina Reyes Ramirez of the Dominican Republic, followed by Miss World Indonesia Natasha Mannuela. Contestants from more than 100 countries took part in the 2016 edition of the beauty pageant.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Power Ministry to launch GARV-II app for tracking rural electrification
i) The Power Ministry will launch a new app ‘GARV-II’ to provide real-time data on electrification of all six lakh villages of the country.
ii) Taking forward PM NarendraModi’s thrust on transparency, Power Minister PiyushGoyal will launch the app which will broadcast village-wise, habitation-wise data provided by the States.
iii) According to the PTI report, the app will also enable tracking the progress of all works sanctioned for each village under DeenDayalUpadhyaya Gram JyotiYojana (DDUGJY).
DoT to Launch Portal That Lets You Check Radiation Status of Mobile Towers
i) The Department of Telecom (DoT) will soon launch ‘Tarang Sanchar’ portal that will let users check radiation compliance status of mobile towers and transmitters across country.
ii) The portal has data from 12.5 lakh base transceiver stations (BTS). It will enable users to view tower-specific details such as the operator, the supporting technology (2G/3G/4G).
iii) It may also charge user fee of Rs. 5000 to get the radiation level checked of mobile towers in case the tests are not undertaken earlier.

India beat Belgium 2-1 to win hockey junior World Cup crown after 15 years
i) India have become the first nation to win the hockey junior World Cup at home. At the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium on Sunday night, India beat Belgium 2-1 to win their second world title after 15 years. Catch highlights of India vs Belgium here.
OBITUARY:  
Former Planning Commission member SaumitraChaudhuri passes away
i) Former Planning Commission member SaumitraChaudhuri passed away in Sir Ganga Ram hospital of the National Capital early on Sunday morning. He was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital due to ill health earlier.
ii) Chaudhuri, a noted economist, joined the Planning Commission as Member in June 2009. Prior to that from January 2005 he was a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.
