Himachal Pradesh becomes sixth in India to attain 100% Aadhaar saturation

i) The Himachal Pradesh has achieved 100 percent Aadhar saturation on the basis of population of year 2015. With this, Himachal Pradesh has become the sixth State/UT in the Country.
ii) Earlier, Delhi, Telangana, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh have achieved this milestone.
iii) About 240 Permanent Enrolment Centers are operational for updation and enrolment activity while 22 Aadhaar Mobile Vans are also covering any left out citizen or elderly person in the remote areas of the state.
Asia Pacific countries resolve to adopt Urban Plus approach to take planning beyond city limits

i) Asia Pacific countries that account for over 55% of global urban population have resolved to adopt ‘Urban Plus’ approach taking urban planning and development beyond city limits to prevent  unmanageable and unsustainable  urban expansion.
ii) This was contained in the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ adopted here today on the conclusion of three day deliberations of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD).
iii) The theme of the conference was ‘Emerging Urban Forms-Policy Reforms and Governance Structures in the Context of New Urban Agenda’.
iv) In the Implementation Plan that was also adopted, the member countries have also strongly recommended formulation of National Human Settlement Policies to promote inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable city and human settlements.
Department of Telecom to launch portal on mobile radiation: ManojSinha
i) Department of Telecom will launch a portal 'Tarang Sanchar' that will help users get checked the radiation level of mobile towers and transmitters across the country in a month.
ii) Union Telecom Minister ManojSinha told reporters in Jaipur that status of the towers will be available on the portal which will be launched in a month.
iii) He said, those who want to get the radiation level checked of towers will be done by the government and they will be informed. Telecom Secretary JS Deepak said, a fee of five thousand rupees will be charged for the test to be conducted by the government.
iv) MrSinha further said that permissible limit for the radiation in India is ten times less than those in other countries.
INTERNATIONAL:
India, Tajikistan ink four agreements
India and Tajikistan have signed four agreements in areas including on double taxation avoidance, money laundering and counter-terrorism.
Signed Agreements are:
i) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Broadcasting in Exchange of Audio Visual Programs
ii) MoU for cooperation in the exchange of financial intelligence related to money laundering, related crimes and financing of terrorism.
iii) Protocol amending the Agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.
iv) Announcement of initiation of Bilateral investment treaty between both countries.
Grand Palais in Paris opens giant ice rink for winter revellers
i) With music, acrobats and disco balls, the Grand Palais in Paris put on an eye-catching party on ice to open their 2,700 square metre rink to the public.
ii) It the world's largest non-permanent indoor ice rink, with more than 100 workers involved in laying the ice over the concrete floor at the French landmark, organisers said at the opening.
iii) The third edition of the Grand Palais des Glaces runs until Jan. 2.
Kyrgyzstan President arrives in Delhi today on 4-day visit to India
i) President of Kyrgyzstan, AlmazbekSharshenovichAtambayev has arrived in Delhi this afternoon on a four day state visit to India.
ii) President Atambayev is leading a high-level delegation comprising of ministers, senior officials and business leaders. This is his first visit to India as President.
iii) President Atambayev will be accorded ceremonial reception on Tuesday morning. Prime Minister NarendraModi will hold bilateral discussions with the visiting President and host a lunch for him.
iv) President Pranab Mukherjee will host a dinner banquet in his honour. During the visit, President Atambayev will attend a Joint Business Forum.
BANKING NEWS:
State Bank MobiCash Mobile Wallet launched
i) Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, ArunJaitley and Minister of State for Communications (Independent charge) and Minster of State for Railways ManojSinha today jointly launched State Bank MobiCash Mobile Wallet, a product by SBI and BSNL.
ii) While introducing the service, Finance Minister appreciated the broader vision of SBI and BSNL to bring a Wallet both for smart and feature phones.
APPOINTMENTS:
Lt Gen BipinRawat appointed army chief, Air Marshal BS Dhanoa is new air force chief
i) Lt Gen BipinRawat was named India’s next army chief on Saturday, as the government abandoned a three-decades-old tradition of elevating senior-most officers as military chiefs.
ii) It, however, stuck to the practice in elevating vice chief air marshal BS Dhanoa – a Kargil war veteran – as the next head of the Indian Air Force.
iii) The two new chiefs – both 1978 batch officers – will take charge on December 31.
iv) Political parties usually avoid comment on military appointments but the choice of Rawat was immediately criticised by the opposition Congress.
Govt Appoints Anil DhasmanaAs New RAW Chief, Rajiv Jain As IB Chief
i) The government today appointed Anil Dhasmana as the new Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief and Rajiv Jain as the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
ii) Anil Dhasmana is an officer from the MP cadre. Dhasmana is considered as one of the most competent officer who specialises in all matters related to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
iii) Anil Dhasmana will take charge from RajinderKhanna in a month’s time, and Rajiv Jain will take charge from Dineshwar Sharma as the IB chief.
iv) Meanwhile, the government is also expected to announce the names of new Army and Air Force chiefs shortly.

Priyanka Chopra beats DiCaprio, JLaw on IMDb’s most popular celebs list
i) Here’s another achievement in Priyanka Chopra’s kitty. She has now made it up to the list of IMDb’s most popular celebrities’ list.
ii) Standing at number 55, Priyanka is ahead of Hollywood’s big names like Jennifer Aniston, Emma Watson, Leonardo Di Caprio, Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson and others.
iii) Priyanka is also the only Indian who’s on the list. Number one on the list is Sofia Boutella, the badass assassin from Kingsman: The Secret Service and will now be seen in The Mummy with Tom Cruise.
SPORTS NEWS:
Vijender Singh beats Francis Cheka by TKO to retain WBO Asia Pacific title
i) It was an anticlimax -- for Vijender Singh’s fans and more so for the Indian boxing star’s opponent of the night, Francis Cheka of Tanzania.
ii) For the fans, the rather short bout – Vijender won in three rounds at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday – would have left their experience incomplete. Cheka, on the other hand, would be thinking -- and he probably is right-- that the referee was unjust to him by stopping the bout prematurely.
iii) Vijender retained his WBO Asia Pacific Super-middleweight crown by a TKO victory over Cheka. The referee stopped the bout in the third round, after the Tanzanian dropped his gum-guard, after getting shaken by a Vijender punch.
