Test Production of the first Titanium project of the country started in Odisha.

  • The Saraf Group has established this project in  Ganjam district of Odisha.
  • After it is functional, the plant is expected to produce 36,000 tons of titanium slag and 20,000 tons of pig iron per annum.
  • One of the four furnaces of the plant became functional during the test run.

GST Council introduces a 4 – tier Tax Structure.

  • The tax slabs are fixed at 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent.
  • The lower tax rate has been fixed for essential items (including food) while the highest rate is meant for luxury and de-merits goods which are currently taxed at 30-31 per cent (excise duty plus VAT). This would also attract an additional cess.

MNRE issues Guidelines for setting up of 1000 MW Wind Power Projects.

  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has  issued Guidelines for transparent bidding process for implementation of Scheme for setting up of 1000 MW Wind Power Project connected to inter-state transmission system (ISTS).
  • Bidders can bid for a minimum capacity of 50 MW and maximum up to 250 MW.
  • The implementing agency SECI has already floated RFS document for selection of bidders under the Scheme.

PM inaugurates Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Management.

  • The Conference is a first major intergovernmental event after the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR).
  • PM pointed out a ten-point agenda for renewing the efforts towards disaster risk reduction.

BJP to flag off ‘Parivartan Yatra’.

  • Keeping in view the Polls of UP, BJP will flag off the Parivartan Yatra to counter the rally by UP CM, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav.
  • The yatra will begin in Saharanpur.

Google ties up with ASI for 3600 virtual tour of the country’s monuments.

  • Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has tied up with Google for the virtual tour of almost 280 monuments across the country.
  • Some of the major monuments that will be included for the virtual tour include Taj Mahal, Victoria Memorial,  the ruins of Hampi etc. Almost 30 of these monuments are from West Bengal.

Indian Researcher wins the German Green Talent Award 2016.

  • Mr. Shamik Chaudhary, PhD in Environmental Engineering has won the German Green Talent Award 2016.
  • His research is focussed on the green synthesis of 2D graphene nanosheets and their self-assembly into advanced 3D macrostructures for sustainable urban development.
  • 25 other young researchers have been honoured with this award.

China launches Long March 5 Rocket.

  • This is China’s largest ever rocket with a payload capacity of 25 tons.
  • The rocket has been built by Chinese Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology.
  • The rocket carried the experimental Shijian 17 electronic propulsion satellite into geostationary orbit.

SAMPRITI – 2016 to start from November 5.

  • Sampriti – 2016, a joint military exercise between the troops of India and Bangladesh will take place from 5 – 18 November in Tangail, Bangladesh.
  • The bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries aims to create a scenario where both nations will work together in counter – insurgency and counter – terrorism environment under the UN Charter.

Sanjiv Arora appointed as the new Ambassador of India to the Republic of Lebanon.

  • An officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Sanjiv Arora has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Lebanon by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Kristalina Georgieva appointed as the new CEO of IBRD and IDA.

  • The Bulgarian European Commissioner had resigned from her post on October 28, 2016.

Pandit Amaradeva, Padma Shri singer and composer passed away.

  • Deshamanya Wannakuwatta Waduge Don Albert Perera, popularly known as Amaradeva was the Sri Lankan vocalist, violinist and composer.
  • Pandit Amaradeva had composed the music for the maldivian National Anthem (Gaumii Salaam) at the request of Maldivian Government.
