India, Japan NSAs hold bilateral consultations in New Delhi
National Security Advisors of India and Japan held bilateral consultations in New Delhi yesterday. During their discussions, Mr. Shotaro Yachi and Mr Ajit Doval expressed satisfaction at the implementation of important understandings reached during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to India in December last year. They shared a view that the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries is a key partnership for promoting peace, prosperity and development in the region and the world.
Odisha govt offers special monetary aid to drought-affected farmers
The Odisha government has offered special monetary assistance of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy to the drought-affected farmers of three districts of the state. The financial assistance will be given up to 50 quintals of paddy sold to the government. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday kicked off the e-transfer money transfer system.
The compensation amount will be directly credited to the bank account of the farmers whose crops were destroyed due to drought in the 2015 Kharif season. At least 3 lakh farmers will be benefited from the scheme. Farmers of the remaining 25 of the 28 drought-affected districts will get the special assistance in different phases, an official statement said. Due to erratic and deficient rainfall in 28 of the 30 districts of Odisha, farmers had to incur huge losses in paddy production last year.
K'taka: Dharwad Zilla Panchayat joins campaign to achieve ODF norm by Oct 2018
The Central Government effort to improve sanitation has found resonance in Dharwad Zilla Panchayat in North Karnataka. It has joined the national campaign to achieve Open Defecation Free norm by October 2018 under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. Out of 144 Gram panchayats in the Dharwad district, 33 Gram Panchayatshave been declared as open defecation free or ODF till now.
There are over one lakh 62 thousand families in these Gram Panchayats, out of which over one lakh 15 thousand families have toilets. The ZillaPanchayat has embarked upon a Challenging task of constructing toilets in the remaining 47 thousand households. As on July this year, it has spent 948 lakh rupees towards building toilets in the district.
Haryana allocates 12 crore for International Gita Mahotsav
The Haryana government has allocated a budget of 12 crore to the Kurukshetra Development Board for the International Gita Mahotsav, which will be held between December 1 and 11. The government on Saturday said it is tying up with organisations to conduct prayers simultaneously in different countries. The Gita Mahotsav will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee, officials have said.
India to host Seventh Session of the Conference of Parties
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, will be hosting the Seventh Session of the Conference of Parties (COP7). The Conference will be inaugurated by J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. The Conference will be held from 7 November to 12 November 2016, at India Exposition Mart, Greater Noida, District Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
It is the first occasion that a Conference of Parties meeting is being held in India. It signals a strong commitment of the Government of India to increase international co-operation and awareness of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) globally and especially in the WHO South-East Asia Region. The Conference will lead into Delhi Declaration for supporting measures for tobacco control.

British PM arrives tonight on three-day visit to India
British Prime Minister Theresa May is arriving in New Delhi tonight on a three-day visit to India. She will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow covering a range of issues of mutual interest. Several agreements are expected to be signed following the meeting. India is likely to raise its concerns over problems being faced by its students in the United Kingdom due to visa curbs.
The two Prime Ministers are expected to deliberate on impact of Brexit on the bilateral ties and ways to boost trade and investment, besides expanding cooperation in some other key areas.The British Prime Minister will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee, besides attending the India UK Tech Summit. The visiting dignitary will leave for Bengaluru on Tuesday on the second leg of her India visit. She is scheduled to hold a meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah there.

Earthport gets RBI nod to operate cross border payments service to India
EarthportPlc, the leading payment network for cross-border transactions, has received the Reserve Bank of India’s permission to provide outbound cross border payment services to banks in India. The approval is part of both RBI and Indian government’s move to facilitate the cross border payments to and from India which is the largest remittance-receiving country in 2015, with an estimated $69 billion.
 India, which is one of the fastest growing market for cross border payments, had an estimated volume of $266 b in exports and $396 b in imports in the financial year 2015-16. Earthport has been facilitating inbound payments into India on behalf of its overseas clients. Now, with this approval from the RBI, Earthport can also process outbound cross border payments for banks in India. The RBI approval was preceded by an extensive review of Earthport and its business model by the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) following which the later recommended the approval to the RBI.
GST Council fixes four tier tax structure under Goods and Services Tax
The GST council on 3 November 2016 approved four tier tax structure of 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent under the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST). There will be two standard tax rates- 12 percent and 18 percent under the GST. Under the tax structure of 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent, the lower rates will be applicable for essential items and the highest for luxury and de-merits goods that will also attract an additional cess.

HCC gets relief under RBI 's S4A sheme
Construction major HCC's Rs 5,000 crore debt recast has become the first case to get approval of a high-level panel set up under RBI's new scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed Assets (S4A). scheme, which was passed by an ICICI Bank-led joint lender forum in September, has been approved by the RBI- mandated overseeing committee and can be implemented now, banking sources said.
Under this recast of HCC's Rs 5,000 croredebt, which has become the first successful resolution case under the RBI's highly-ambitious S4A tool, 52 percent of debt worth Rs 2,600 crore was found to be sustainable. This would be serviced as per the original terms and conditions, including about interest rate and tenure.
Out of the remaining 48 percent totalling up to Rs 2,400 crore, debt of Rs 1,000 crore would be converted into equity for the banks, which could eventually give them 25 percent stake in the company's post-scheme equity capital.

Odisha govt signs MoU to set up four more STPI centres
Odisha Government has signed anMoU with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) for setting up of four more centres in the State. The new centres would come up at Angul, Jajpur, Koraput and Sambalpur. With this, the number of STPI centres will rise to eight in the State which is highest in the country.
The STPI centres would act as resource centres for IT and IT enabled services and export of software. Notably, IT exports from the state is reported at 2,900 crore rupees during 2015-16. Around 90 per cent of software exports from Odisha are contributed by STPI.
Telecom Sector Skill Council inks MoU with Taiwan
Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), a not-for-profit public-private partnership between National Skill Development Corporation and the industry, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Taiwan to strengthen cooperation in the field of corporate job vacancies and recruitment services post skilling in India and internationally.
Under the MoU, TSSC will provide rightly trained/skilled workforce to Taiwan for employment in Taiwan and in return Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs will provide the details of opportunities to serve various organisations that seek the service of professionals trained by TSSC, a company release said.
Praveen Kumar Sharma appointed MD and CEO of Cersai
Praveen Kumar Sharma was today appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India (Cersai). Sharma is General Manager, State Bank of India.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved his appointment for three years, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training said. Cersai is providing the platform for filing registrations of transactions of securitisation, asset reconstruction and security interest by the banks and financial institutions.
China to be theme country at Kolkata film festival
Notwithstanding the recent dip in bilateral ties, China will feature as the ‘Focus Country’ in the 22nd edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), beginning here on November 11.mActor Amitabh Bachchan will inaugurate the festival for the fifth time in a row. Andy Murray attains world number one ranking in Tennis
In Tennis, Briton Andy Murray has attained the world number one ranking for the first time replacing Novak Djokovic. Murray needed to enter the Final of the ongoing Paris Masters to go at the ATP rankings and he did so after Milos Raonic pulled out before their semi-final due to injury. Murray is now the first Briton to hold the top ranking. He is the 26th man to hold the spot since computerised rankings began in 1973.
Manny Pacquiao reclaims WBO welterweight title for third time
In Boxing, Manny Pacquiao reclaims the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight title for the third time. The 37-year-old Filipino pugilist, who had announced his retirement seven months ago, was declared the winner with unanimous decision after he defeated American Jessie Vargas in his comeback fight in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao knocked Vargas down in the second round en route to a superb victory. All the three judges gave the bout in Pacquiao's favour - two giving a score of 118-109 and the third 114-113. Vargas had won the WBO version of the 147-pound title in March after beating fellow American Sadam Ali.
Indian wrestlers win 8 gold, 8 silver in Commonwealth Championship
India continued their rich run in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships by winning eight gold medals and as many silver here today. India won five gold medals in freestyle through Harful, Bajrang, Jitender, Sandeep, Deepak and Arun.The three gold medals in greco-roman came from Ravinder, Krishan and Sachin.
