PM to inaugurate intl conf on sugarcane value chain in Pune
Prime Minister NarendraModi will inaugurate International Conference and Exhibition on Sugarcane Value Chain - Vision 2025 Sugar organised by Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) at Manjari near Pune today. VSI is an autonomous body established in 1975 by cane growers of co-operative sugar mills in Maharashtra with support of State and Central government.
Organisers said it is a matter of pride for VSI that the conference is coinciding with the birth centenary year of Late VasantdadaPatil Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and founder of the institute Maharashtra Governor C. VidyasagarRao, Chief Minister DevendraFadnavis and former Union Minister and NCP chief SharadPawar, who is the President of VSI, will also be present at the inauguration ceremony.
India to preside next edition of COP in Geneva in 2018
India will preside the eighth edition of the Conference of Parties (COP) to WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) which will be held in Switzerland's Geneva in 2018.Health Secretary CK Mishra has been chosen as the President of the COP Bureau, for the next two years, after a unanimous decision by the COP7 Plenary session.
COP Bureau is the main administrative body of WHO FCTC that decides on strategies on how to implement the decisions taken in the COP session, which happens every two years. The World Health Organisations Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) is the world's biggest convention to frame the anti-tobacco policies.
PM lays foundation stone for airport & electronic manufacturing cluster in Goa
Prime Minister NarendraModi today laid the foundation stone for Mopagreen field international airport and Tuem electronic manufacturing cluster in Goa, during a function at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Bambolim near Panaji, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Phase 3 A of Goa Shipyard Limited.
Pune to host India-China 'Hand-In-Hand 2016' training
The India-China Joint Training Exercise "Hand in Hand 2016" is scheduled to be held in Pune from November 15-27. This would mark the 6th annual joint training exercise between the Indian Army and the People's Liberation Army of China. It is aimed at honing military skills of the two armies by sharing expertise in drills while tackling insurgency and terrorism.
Foundation stone for world's highest skywalk laid in Sikkim
Sikkim Chief Minister PawanChamling laid the foundation stone of a ropeway for what would be the world's highest skywalk once completed. Being built at a height of 10,300 feet, the Bhaleydhunga Skywalk Project will be the second of its kind in Asia. "The skywalk will also help in the economic and livelihood development of the region," Chamling said.

Centre to pay Rs. 500 cr a year to GST network as service charge
Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), the company which was tasked to set up IT infrastructure for the GST, said that by January it will start training around 60,000 state government officials to equip them to handle GST roll out. The non-profit organisation said that the Centre agreed to pay around Rs 500 crore every year on behalf of the tax payers as service charge.
Speaking on the sidelines of SICCI's interactive session in Chennai today, GSTN's Chairman Navin Kumar said that GST won't be successful without its IT backbone GSTN. While on November 8, enrolment of VAT assessees to GST Portal started from Puducherry, the first in the country (along with Sikkim) on November 8, other States are expected to be covered before February 15, 2017.
All GST ID numbers will only be allocated once Parliament passes the supporting legislation for GST. He noted, every month about 320 crore invoices are uploaded, initially GSTN suggested to the Government that users should be charged a small fee, but Government said that it will pay on behalf of the users. The burden would be around Rs 500 crore every year.

IMF approves largest-ever loan for a Middle East nation
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a three-year $12 billion loan program for Egypt, the largest such package to a Middle East nation. The loan will help in boosting Egypt’s foreign currency inflows, which have dwindled since the 2011 Arab Spring uprising, and revive the African nation's economy. Egypt will receive an immediate disbursement of $2.75 billion, IMF said.

India, Bhutan signs agreement on trade for better bilateral relations
India and Bhutan have signed a bilateral trade agreement with a validity period of one year aiming to further strengthen the bilateral relations between both countries. Under the new agreement, it is aimed to enhance trade between the two countries through trade facilitation by improving procedures, cutting down on documentation and adding additional exit/entry points for Bhutan's trade with other countries.
Commerce and Industry Minister NirmalaSitharaman and Bhutan's Economic Affairs Minister TengyeLyonpoLekeyDorji signed the agreement in New Delhi yesterday. The first agreement on trade and commerce between both countries was signed in 1972.

Batra 1st Indian to be International Hockey Federation chief
NarinderBatra has become the first Indian to be elected the President of the International Hockey Federation. He was voted to the top post by an overwhelming margin during the penultimate day of the 45th FIH Congress in Dubai. Batra, who is the president of Hockey India, defeated David Balbirnie of Ireland and Australia's Ken Read to become the 12th FIH President and also the first Asian to grab the post. Batra succeeds Spaniard Leandro Negre, who has been the FIH chief since 2008.
Sudanese Wins Prestigious Australian Award
A former child soldier Deng Adut has received one of Australia’s highest civic awards, the 2017 New South Wales Australian of the Year. He has been recognized for helping to combat discrimination and assisting juvenile offenders. The 33-year-old former refugee is a successful criminal lawyer who helps Sudanese migrants. And he is now a contender for a prestigious national award.
As a young child he was made to fight for Sudan’s People’s Liberation Army. He endured torture, witnessed atrocities and was shot in the back. Adut was eventually rescued and smuggled to Kenya with the help of the United Nations. He arrived as a refugee in Australia in 1988.He taught himself to read English as a teenager and lived in his car while studying law at a university in Sydney. He plans to become a barrister, his ambition fueled by an insatiable desire to learn.

TIFR to launch 10 scientific balloon flights with ISRO
A many as 10 balloon flights will be launched by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research for scientific purposes from November 15 to April 30, 2017, in collaboration with ISRO and Department of Atomic Energy. The balloons would carry scientific instruments for high-altitude research and are expected to reach heights between 30-42 km, depending upon the experiments.
INSV Mhadei Flagged Off with an all-women crew
Indian Navy Sailing Vessel (INSV) Mhadei with an all-women crew was flagged off from Goa to Cape Town, South Africa. The vessel was flagged-off at the Boat Pool of INS Mandovi on 9 November 2016 by Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, Commandant Naval War College. The vessel that will reach Cape Town on 15 December 2016 will be participating in the “Cape to Rio Race” (Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro). The race will start from Cape Town on 26 December 2016.

India captain nominated for int'l 'goalkeeper of the year'
Indian hockey captain PR Sreejesh has been nominated for the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) goalkeeper of the year award. The nominations also include 20-year-old defender Harmanpreet Singh in the 'Rising star of the year' category. Winners will be decided through a public online vote and a peer vote from international athletes, with results being declared in January.
Sydney to host Invictus Games in 2018: Britain's Prince Harry
Australia will host the 2018 Invictus Games for wounded military personnel, Britain's Prince Harry announced. More than 500 serving and former personnel from 17 nations will compete in the multi-sports competition in Sydney.The games have been held in London and Orlando, and are due to be held in Toronto next year.
Aditi Ashok 1st Indian to win a Ladies European Tour event
Golfer Aditi Ashok has become the first Indian to win a Ladies European Tour event, clinching the Hero Women's Indian Open in Gurgaon on Sunday. After winning the $400,000 tournament, Aditi is in the reckoning for the Tour's 'Rookie Player of the Year' award. She is the only golfer to have represented India at the Olympics, after participating in Rio.
Carlos Iacono wins World Championship of freestyle football
Argentina's freestyle footballer Carlos Alberto Iacono won the Red Bull Street Style in London this week. Iacono defeated Japan's Kosuke Takahashi, in front of five judges including guest judge former Manchester United player Gary Neville, to win the title. Notably, Red Bull Street Style is the official World Championship of freestyle football.
