Highlights of some important APPS/PORTALS launched – Part – I

Dear Aspirants,

Keeping in view the Current Affairs questions asked in the competitive exams, today we are going to provide you the information regarding some Important Apps/Portals that have been launched in the last few months.

Following Apps/Portals have been introduced  –

1. SURYAMITRA APP –

• Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy launched Surya Mitra Mobile App at National Workshop on Rooftop Solar Power on 7th June 2016.
• The GPS based mobile app is developed by National Institute of Solar Energy which is an autonomous institution of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
• This innovative mobile approach is aimed at enhancing the employment of trained youth in Solar Photo voltaic Technology and also improve the businesses of solar entrepreneurs.

2. URJA (URBAN JYOTI ABHIYAN) MOBILE APP –

• Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Mr. Piyush Goyal launched URJA- Urban Jyoti Abhiyan Mobile app at Cansaulim in South Goa on 16 June 2016.
• The app is developed by Power Finance Corporation on behalf of Ministry of Power for Urban Power Distribution Sector to enhance connectivity of consumers  with the Urban Power Distribution sector by providing information of IT enabled towns on important parameters which concern the consumers like outage information, timely release of connections, addressing complaints, power reliability etc.
• The app will work as manifestation of Prime Minister’s principle of good governance.

3. DND SERVICES APP –

• DND (Do Not Disturb) Services app helps smartphone users to register their mobile number under DND to avoid Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC)/Telemarketing Calls/SMS.
• The app has been developed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
• App will facilitate users to Register/De-register for DND and change their preference for receiving UCC.

4. NIVARAN PORTAL –

• This portal was launched by Union Railways Minister, Mr. Suresh Prabhu on 1st July 2016.
• The portal has been developed by CRIS (Centre for Railway Information System), which also runs IRCTC.
• It is an Online Grievance Redressal System for serving current and former Railway employees.
• The system facilitates Railway employees to log grievances and monitor its progress. It also allows employees to appeal to higher authorities in case they are not satisfied with the decision.
  

5.  TRANSFORMING INDIA PORTAL –

• The Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad on 15 July 2016 formally launched Transforming India portal  http://ift.tt/29VsrLq in New Delhi.
• Transforming India portal is a repository for sharing the impact of various governance initiatives with citizens in real-time.
• This portal provides information in a user-friendly format enabling citizens to view the content in the form of Info-graphics, e-books, performance dashboard, videos, daily news corner, etc. and engage with the content by comments and sharing the content through Social Media.
• This community based platform facilitates two-way communication between the government and citizens. It is also a social platform on which users can share their opinions about various initiatives of the government.
