Solutions:
1). b) Let the monthly income of P and Q be 4x and 3x respectively.
Let the monthly expenditure of P and Q be 6y and5y respectively.
Monthly savings of P and Q are 4x – 6y and 3x – 5y respectively.
[(4x – 6y)/3x – 5y] = 3:1
Let 4x – 6y = 3k and 3x – 5y = k
=> 3k = 2500 + 2k
=> K = 2500 and hence 3k = 7500
Therefore 4x – 6y = 7500 and 3x – 5y = 2500
=> 3(4x – 6y) – 4(3x – 5y) = 22500 – 10000 => 2y = 12500
Monthly expenditure of P = 6y = 3 x 2y = 3 x 12500 = 37500
2). a) Let distance be x kmph and speed y kmph
x/y - x/(y+3) = 40/ 60 _____________ (i)
x/(y-2) - x/y = 40/60 ______________ (ii)
from eqution (i) & (ii)
y = 12 kmph
x = 40 km
3). a) Amount for first year=6000 × 105/100=6300
After repaid 2100 the rest amount=6300 – 2100=4200
Amount for 2nd year=4200 × 105/100=4410
After repaid 2100 the rest amount=4410 – 2100=2310
Amount for 3rd year=2310 × 105/100=2425.5
4). c) Let total no of candidates = 1000
So, 1000 – (50 +50+900 × ¼ +900 × 1/5) = 396
1000 = 396/495 × 1000 = 800
5). a) Let total no’s of cake = 100& CP of each coke = 1 Rs.
MP of each coke = 1.4
SP of 24% coke = 24 × 0.8 = 19.2
SP of 60% coke = 60 × 1.4 = 84
Total SP = 84 + 19.2 = 103.2
Profit = 103.2 – 100
Profit = 3.2%
