1. Lewis Hamilton wins 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix of F1

  • Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton from Great Britain has won the 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix title of Formula One.
  • It his overall fourth Hungarian Grand Prix title after winning it in 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2013.
  • He holds record of most wins (drivers)  with 5 wins.
  • Besides it was his fifth title of the 2016 season after Monaco Grand Prix (May 2016), Canadian Grand Prix (June 2016), Austrian Grand Prix (July 2016) and British Grand Prix (July 2016).

Note:- 

  • Hungarian Grand Prix was the eleventh race of the 2016 season and was held at the Hungaroring is a motor-racing circuit in Mogyoród, Hungary.

2. India beat West Indies by innings and 92 runs in first Test match

  • India defeated West Indies by an innings and 92 runs in the first cricket Test to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series in Antigua .
  • India notched up 566 for eight declared in their first innings and then bowled out West Indies for 243 to take a lead of 323 runs.
  • Forced to follow-on, West Indies were bundled out for 231 in their second innings.

Brief scores:

  • India : 1st innings: 566 for eight declared in 161.5 overs.
  • West Indies: 243 all out and 231 all out in 78 overs.
  • R. Ashwin picked up seven wickets and declared man of the match.

3. Neeraj Chopra becomes 1st Indian to win gold in athletics

  • India’s Neeraj Chopra (18-year) has won the javelin gold at the IAAF World under-20 athletics championship in Poland.
  • He created a new U-20 world record by throwing the javelin a distance of 86.48m, South African Johan Gobler (80.59m) took the silver and Anderson Peters (79.65m) of Granada finished third.
  • Chopra is from Panipat in Haryana bettered the previous U-20 record of 84.69m held by Latvian Zigismunds Sirmais by nearly two metres.

4. Feliciano Lopez wins 2016 Swiss Open Gstaad

  • Top-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain has defeated Robin Haase of the Netherlands 6-4, 7-5 to win the Swiss Open Gstaad – 2016.
  • It is Lopez’s first title on clay and his fifth overall.
  • Lopez  was the winner of the 2004 Vienna Open, the 2010 Johannesburg Open and the Eatsbourne open in 2013 and 2014.

Note:-

  • The Swiss Open is a tennis tournament held in Gstaad, Switzerland. The tournament is played on outdoor clay courts.

5. Indian shooters Manavaditya and Anant clinch Bronze in Junior World Cup in Italy

  • Promising Indian shooter Manavaditya Rathore son of Col Rajyavardhan Rathore has won the trap bronze medal in the Champion of Champions match at the Junior World Cup in Porpetto, Italy.
  • Anant Naruka bagged a bronze in skeet.
  • In the Champion of Champions event, the medallists of the three Junior World Cups of the year compete against each other.

6. Nepal Prime Minister Khadga Prasad  Sharma Oli resigns

  • Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli has resigned from his post the no-confidence motion against him in the Parliament.
  • Oli, who became PM last October heading Nepal’s eighth government in the past 10 years, has been facing a no-trust motion after the Maoists withdrew support from the coalition government.
  • He born in eastern Nepal on February 22, 1952, Oli became a member of the Nepal Communist Party in 1970 after being influenced by local communist leaders as a teenager.

7. India’s first Green Rail Corridor launched in Tamil Nadu

  • India’s first ‘Green Rail Corridor‘ has been inaugurated on the RameswaramManamadurai stretch (114-km,long) in Tamil Nadu.
  • It has been inaugurated by Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu through video-conferencing from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
  • Trains in the section have been equipped with bio-toilets to ensure zero discharge of human waste on the rail tracks.
  • Union Railways Minister also inaugurated high speed upgraded Wi-Fi facility, set up in association with Google, at Chennai Central Railway Station and  a similar facility at Tiruchirappalli Railway Station.
  • He also launched a traditional medicine centre under Ayush at Perambur Railway Hospital, a broad gauge line between Thiruvallur and Thiruvalangadu stations on the Chennai-Arakkonam line.

8. Maharashtra CM launches pilot project of e-complaint system

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched a pilot project of e-complaint system on an experimental basis in Pune.
  • The system will be launched across the state within 8 months.
  • It has been launched during the concluding ceremony of 14th Maharashtra Police Duty Meet at SRPF ground at Ramtekdi.
  • Citizens can now register a police complaint online at any city police station from anywhere.
  • A new SMS gateway has been launched wherein people get an acknowledgment of the FIR on the phone through a system generated SMS, and also when accused are arrested, charge sheet/final report submitted to the court.

9. Foundation stone laid for MSME technology center in Visakhapatnam

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union Ministers Kalraj Mishra and Venkaiah Naidu have laid the foundation stone for a Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises technology centre under Technology Centre Systems Programme (TCSP) at Pudi in Visakhapatnam district.
  • The programme is funded by the World Bank and the government of India.
  • Its main focus is to support industries, particularly MSMEs, through access to advanced manufacturing technologies, skill manpower and providing technical and business advisory support to entrepreneurs.
  • Naidu also laid the foundation stone for 400 houses being built by the AP Housing Board for those who lost their dwellings in the 2014 Hudhud cyclone.

10. RBI imposes penalty of Rs 5 cr on Bank of Baroda

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of five crore rupees on Bank of Baroda in the alleged Rs. 6,100-crore forex related irregularities that were observed in October.
  • Various irregularities by bank such as non-submission and inordinate delays in filing of Suspicious Transaction Reports, besides opening of accounts by several entities without fulfilling KYC norms, were noticed by RBI.
  • According to BOB it has implemented a comprehensive corrective action plan, to strengthen internal controls and to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

11. Bappi Lahiri conferred Mahanayak Samman of West Bengal

  • Renowned Music Director and singer Bappi Lahiri has been honoured with ‘Mahanayak award‘ by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee.
  • The award has been conferred to them on the occasion of 36th death anniversary (24th July) of Uttam Kumar.
  • The awards were instituted in 2012 in the memory of Bengali matinee idol Uttam Kumar who is revered in this part of India as “Mahanayak“.

  • Best actor (male) awards: Paran Bandyopadhyay and Jishu Sengupta
