Hello everyone, in our Lesson 3, we learnt about the prefixes ad, ac, af, ag, al, an, ap, aq, ar, as, at.  They represent the meanings to, towards. Today we shall see the prefixes al, all. Knowingly or unknowingly, we all use this prefix. Let's have a look.....

Day 4 : Al, All

al, all - all; completely
Let's try to understand this with some examples....
  1.  already (adverb) = before a particular time in the past.
    • al (all) - Prefix = completely
    • read (gereed) - Root = prepare
    • y - Suffix = having the quality of
  2. all-round (adjective) = including many different subjects or skills etc.
    • all - Prefix - all
    • round - Root = on all sides of something
Let's have a look at some more words with al, all prefixes, for better understanding.
  1. almost = nearly
  2. all-time = of any time
  3. also = in addition; too
  4. although = despite the fact that
  5. altogether = completely or in total 
  6. all-inclusive = including everything 
  7. alright = of a satisfactory or acceptable quality.
  8. all-around = good at doing a lot of different things
  9. almight = having complete power
  10. all-powerful = having complete power
Home Work :
Try to guess the meanings of the following elements.
  1. ambi -
  2. a-, an-
  3. contra -
  4. dis -
a. the opposite of
c. without
d. against
