English Quiz SSC CGL and CPO 2016

For the first time SSC examination will be held in Computer Based pattern and managing time will be one of the important factor while solving the questions. So in order to make students familiar with such a situations we are providing questions in a time based manner , which will help students to manage the time properly.




Directions (Q.1-10): In the following questions, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best express the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

 Q1. He said, ‘Ravi, why are you sounding to depressed today?’

(change the structure of reported speech into a statement, that is use subject before verb and use past perfect tense in reported speech)

Q4. ‘Have you completed your assignment, Minu?’ said her brother.
Minu’s brother finished your assignment.
Minu’s brother said to Minu if she had finished her assignment.
Minu’s brother asked her if she had finished her assignment.
Minu’s brother asked Minu if she has finished her assignment.
Solution:
(if modals are used as question words in reported speech, use 'if' and make the structure 'statement)

Q5. He says, ‘I go for a walk every morning.’
He says that he goes for a walk every morning.
He said that he used to go for a walk every morning.

He says he went for a walk every morning.
Solution:
(in the case of habitual habit, we do not change the tense and structure of the reported speech)

Q6. The Principal said, ‘Why didn’t you attend the flag hoisting ceremony, Anuj?’
The Principal asked Anuj why hadn’t he attended the flag hoisting ceremony.
The Principal asked to Anuj why he hadn’t attended the flag hoisting ceremony.
The Principal asked to Anuj why didn’t he attend the flag hoisting ceremony.
The Principal asked Anuj why he didn’t attend the flag hoisting ceremony.

( in this sentence, a true fact is stated, hence tense will not be changed)
