1. SpaceX successfully launches two commercial satellites
1. US based private space transport service company SpaceX successfully launched two commercial satellites viz. EUTELSAT 117 West B and ABS-2A. They were launched using SpaceX’s reusable Falcon 9 rocket which had lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, US. This mission was SpaceX’s second dual-satellite launch.
2. These two commercial satellites are operated by Eutelsat and ABS companies respectively. They are geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) satellites that seek to provide global communications services to their users.

2. PM Narendra Modi outlines RAPID, five-point mantra to reform and broaden tax net
1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outline RAPID, five-point mantra to tax officials to reform and broaden the direct tax net base. The new five point charter for tax administrators RAPID means R for Revenue, A for Accountability, P for Probity, I for Information and D for Digitization. It was announced while inaugurating Rajasva Gyan Sangam, a two-day Annual Conference of Senior Tax Administrators in New Delhi.
2. The five point charter seeks to bring reform to country’s age old and redundant revenue administration, which still has a huge hangover of the British colonial legacy. It also seeks to make the tax system easier and accessible for the tax payers at the same time make it difficult to the defaulters who bend the system.

3. NRIs can now join NPS online through eNPS
1. The Union Finance Ministry has announced that non-resident Indians (NRIs) can now open National Pension Savings (NPS) accounts online i.e. through eNPS if they have Aadhaar Card or Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.
2. Earlier, NRIs could open NPS accounts only through paper based applications by approaching Bank offices. NPS are being regulated by the PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority), a regulator established by the Finance Ministry.
3. Through eNPS, NRI’s will be able to open NPS accounts both on repatriable and on non-repatriable basis. The NPS funds would be deposited only in their NRO accounts On a repatriable basis, NRIs will have to remit the amount through his/her NRE/NRO/FCNR account.

4. Veteran Odia actress Manimala Devi passes away
1. Noted theatre personality and popular yesteryear Odia film actress Manimala Devi passed away in Bhubaneswar, Odisha due to old-age-related complications. She was 86. She was among the first generation artistes in the state and had ruled the Odia film industry as lead actress in the 1960s with her influential performances in various films.

5. RBI simplifies registration process for new NBFCs
1. In order to make the registration process of new non-banking finance companies smoother and hassle-free, the Reserve Bank of India has revised the application form for registration of these companies and the checklist of documents to be submitted.
2. The number of documents to be submitted by NBFC applicants has been reduced from the existing set of 45 documents to seven to eight in the revised process.
3. The first type (Type-I) will be a NBFC-ND not accepting public funds/ not intending to accept public funds in the future and not having customer interface/ not intending to have customer interface in the future.

6. Boeing, Tata to establish aerospace facility near Hyderabad
1. Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems have laid the foundation of a new facility in Hyderabad for its joint venture TATA Boeing Aerospace Ltd (TBAL).
2. The joint venture has been established to co-produce Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselages and other aerostructures, as well as to pursue integrated systems in aerospace.
3. The Hyderabad production facility will eventually be the sole producer of AH-64 fuselages globally. The Apache has been flown or selected for acquisition by the US and 15 other nations, including India.

7. India gets its first women fighter pilots
1. Creating history, Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh today became the first women fighter pilots to be formally commissioned by the Indian Air Force.
2. Batting for gender parity in the armed forces, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was chief guest at the combined graduation ceremony at Air Force Academy, Dundigal, on the city outskirts, termed the event as a “milestone” as it also the first time that women have been given a combat role.
3. Expressing happiness, the three women pilots, who successfully completed pre-commissioning training by the Flight Cadets of various branches of IAF, said they consider themselves “fortunate” and were excited to take on their duties.
4. The trio will go to Bidar in Karnataka for their stage-III training for a year on Hawk advanced jet trainers, before they get to fly supersonic warplanes.
