The Centre has decided to undertake a clean-up initiative at 100 iconic heritage, spiritual and cultural sites under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). Ten iconic places have been shortlisted for the implementation during its first phase. This includes Taj Mahal (UP), Golden Temple (Punjab), Ajmer Sharif (Rajasthan), Vaishno Devi (J&K), Jagannath Puri (Odisha), Meenakshi Temple (Tamil Nadu) among others.
The aim of this initiative is to make these 100 places model ‘Swachh Tourist Destinations’, that will enhance the experience for visitors from India and abroad. Under Phase 1 of this initiative, the following iconic places have been selected for an intensive clean up:
