TOPIC-1 TIME TO APPLY THE BRAKES

1. Underage(adj)-(of a person) too young in a particular activity, especially drinking alcohol
Eg- Marketing professional killed by an underage driver of a Mercedes in Delhi

2. Aspect(noun)- characterstic,view,situation,point
3. Law-abiding(adj)- obedient to the laws of society
Sy- well-behaved,honest,lawful
Eg- People in Delhi never been known for being law-abiding.
4. Flouted(verb)- openly disregard(a rule,law or convention)
Sy- defy,mock
Eg- The rules of the roal are flouted everyday
5. Malice(noun)- the desire to harm someone
Sy- ill-will, revenge, enmity,hostility
Eg- This malice pervades all levels of the society.
6. Pervade(verb)- be present and apparent throughout
Eg- This malice pervades all levels of the society.
7. Impressionable- easily influenced.
Eg- (i)"a girl of eighteen is highly impressionable"
 (ii)a person of an impressionable age is very likely to get the idea
8. Reinforce(verb)- strengthen or support
Eg- Driving a costly vehicle such as a Mercedes can only reinforce such an idea.
9. Culpable(adj)-deserving blame,guilty
Eg- Charged with culpable homicide
10. Homicide(noun)- the killing of one person by another.
Eg- Charged with culpable homicide
1. Tranches(noun)- a portion of s/t especially money
Eg- Govt announced the release of its first tranche of funds.
2. Staggering(verb)- astonish or deeply shock
Sy- astonish,amaze,flabbergast, shock, jolt
Eg- I was staggered to find it.
3. Quantum(noun)- a required or allowed amount
Eg- the quantum of first tranche
4. Escalation(noun)- a rapid increase
Eg-  With no work and no wages, it is obvious that there is going to be a resultant escalation in malnutrition, endemic hunger, and distress migration.
5. Entitlement(noun) – the fact of having a right to s/t
Sy- right,claim,licence
Eg- The entitlement of compensation for delayed payments has also been violated.
6. Lapse- temporary failure
Eg- Notification lapse on March 31
7. tide somebody over( tide over somebody )(idiom)-to supply someone with something they need for a short period
eg- It can help people in distress tide over the drought without completely caving in.
8. Cave in(phrase)-to give away
