  • To have a positive ring - to sound interesting / attractive
  • Behemoth - something that is ​extremely ​large and ​powerful
  • Pitches - to convince us to do something (here buying)
  • Altruistic - showing a ​wish to ​help others, ​even if it ​results in ​disadvantage for yourself
  • Endeavour - try hard to do something
  • Have-nots - economically disadvantaged people (poor)
  • Evoke - to make someone ​remember something
  • Metaphorical - to represent some ​truth about a ​situation or other ​subject
  • Walled garden - a restricted range of information to which subscribers to a particular service are limited
  • Immensely popular - very popular
  • Unconventional - unusual
  • Accumulate - to ​collect a ​large ​number of things over a ​long ​period of ​time
  • Traction - a product ​becoming ​popular or being ​accepted
  • Untapped - not yet used
  • Stark - simple
  • Doggedly - to do something with strong determination (doing something ​even if it is very ​difficult)
  • Tweak - to improve something by making adjustments to it
  • Avowedly - to declare openly and unashamedly

  • Alliance - an ​agreement to ​work with someone ​else to ​try to ​achieve the same thing
  • Brainstormed - held a group discussion to produce ideas
  • Revive - to regain life / strength
  • Sagging - sinking (here decreasing)

  • Clout - to hit (someone or something) hard
  • Substantive - important / ​serious
  • Intervention / Intervening -  to involve in a ​difficult ​situation in ​order to ​improve it
  • Mounting - gradually ​increasing
  • Stature - importance gained by ability or achievement
  • Take a beating - to stop doing something for a while
  • Tactics  - plans for attaining a particular goal
  • Contend - to ​compete in ​order to ​win something
  • Staunch - very loyal (supporting)
  • Dilemma - a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives
  • Rhetoric - influence ​
  • Dispirited - not ​feeling much ​hope about a ​particular ​situation
  • Erode - to ​slowly ​reduce or ​destroy something
  • Geopolitics - political ​activity as ​influenced by the ​physical ​features of an area
  • Egalitarian society - a society which believes in the equality of all people
  • Radical - the ​belief that there should be ​great or ​extreme ​social or ​political ​change
  • Jargon - special language used by people in the same work or profession (which is difficult for others to understand)
  • Resonance - the ​quality of being ​loud and ​clear
  • Livelihood - the ​money ​people need to ​pay for ​food, a ​place to ​live, ​clothing, etc
