Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: Iron Man of India

October 31, 2015

Dear BA'ians,
This is the eve time to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of  "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel" an "Iron Man of India" and our first Deputy Prime Minister. This day is celebrated as "National Unity Day" or "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas". The slogan for this Birthday is "Sardar Patel Ka Sapna, Ek Jut Ho Bharat Apna".

Today, Our Honorable and respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji flagged off the 'Run For Unity' in New Delhi to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and urged people to take inspiration from his life and work for the country's unity and integrity.
After administering a 'pledge of unity' to the thousands gathered at Rajpath, PM Modi also asked people to remember Sardar Patel's message on unity. "If our goal is to take Mother India to new heights in the world, then the first condition for that is unity, peace and harmony," he said and added that "If 125 crore Indians will take one step forward with the mantra of unity, peace and harmony, then the country will move 125 crore steps in one go."

The Prime Minister also announced that 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' initiative will be launched soon under which every state will choose another state each year and then promote its language and culture.
Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel ( 31 October 1875 – 15 December 1950) was an Indian barrister and statesman, one of the leaders of the Indian National Congress and one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India. He was a social leader who played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation. In India and elsewhere, he was often addressed as Sardar, which means Chief in Hindi, Urdu and Persian.
As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel took charge of the task to forge a united India by integrating into the newly liberated nation those British colonial provinces "allocated" to India.
1. He was a real fighter who fought for the "Self-Rule" being a part of Satyagraha and Quit India Movement.
2. He was a leader who will never back down or step back from leading the mass towards Independence.
Being an Iron Man of India and leading the India towards and after Independence, we should learn some lessons from him and inculcate them in our life -
  • "Women in one way are extremely courageous. Men do not endure the miseries to the extent women do. So long as women are not sufficiently educated and inculcated with national spirit, till then there will be no prosperity."
  • "Caste, community will rapidly disappear. We have to speedily forget all these things. Such boundaries hamper our growth."
  • A drunkard can never become a man of character. He does not have sense of good or evil. He is not able to control himself. Therefore, give up drinking forever.
  • No one should spit on the roads, should not throw remnants of eatables on the streets, and should not make the places dirty.
  • Non-violence has to be observed in thought, word and deed. The measure of our non-violence will be the measure of our success
