1. Fiji Parliament elects new President

Fiji's Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Jioji Konrote, has been elected by Parliament as Fiji's next President.

Mr Konrote's resigned from his seat, in accord with the constitution.
He was elected by a margin of 31-14, with the three National Federation Party members abstaining from the vote.
The opposition SODELPA party had proposed Ratu Epeli Ganilau as its presidential candidate.
According to electoral laws, the next most popular candidate at the previous election will take his place, however that is the current acting Military Commander Viliame Naupoto, who told FBC he would not leave the military.


2. India-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti-2015’ culminated
The third India-Sri Lanka joint training exercise, named Mitra Shakti-2015, culminated o at Aundh Military Camp, Pune.         
The 14-day joint training included understanding of transnational terrorism, developing interoperability and conduct of joint tactical operations controlled by a Joint Command Post.
The exercise demonstrated the determination of the two Armies in working closely with each other to eradicate the menace of terrorism in all its forms.
The 2014 edition of the Mitra Shakti joint exercise was held at the Uva-Kudaoya Commando Regiment Training School near Colombo in Sri Lanka between 3 November and 23 November 2014.

3. Indo-China Joint Military Exercise ‘Hand in Hand’- 2015 started
Fifth joint military exercise between India and China, named Hand-in-Hand 2015, started at Kunming Military Academy, Yunnan Province, China on 12 October 2015. The twelve day exercise lays emphasis on joint handling of counter terrorism and ‘Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief’.
The exercise Hand-in-Hand-2015 will play important role in deepening mutual cooperation and forging a closer development partnership. It would also facilitate in tackling the world wide phenomenon of terrorism.     
It would also expand the scope of military interaction, facilitate exchange of best practices in counter terrorism operations, enhance mutual understanding and trust and further promote friendly relationship between both militaries.

4. Telenor appointed Sharad Mehrotra as India CEO
Telenor India, earlier known as Uninor, appointed Sharad Mehrotra as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The appointment came after the position was vacated by Vivek Sood who has been promoted to the positions of Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).
The appointments will be effective from 1 November 2015.
Before the appointment, Mehrotra worked as Chief Marketing Officer of Telenor Myanmar, where he played a pivotal role in the successful launch of Telenor's mobile services.

5. Veteran filmmaker I.V. Sasi honoured with J.C. Daniel Award
Renowned Malayalam filmmaker I.V. Sasi on 12 October 2015 was awarded with the prestigious J.C. Daniel Award for the year 2014 for his contributions towards the Malayalam entertainment industry.
Sasi has made over 150 Indian films in various languages and genres. However, he is mostly known for his South Indian films.
He started his directorial career officially with his first film Ulsavam. He has directed more than 170 films over a span of 34 years. Most of his movies came out as super hits and some of them are even classified as classics or good cinema.
In 1982, his film Aaroodam won the Nargis Dutt Award for the best feature film on National Integration.

6. Infosys appoints Ranganath D Mavinakere as new CFO
India’s second largest software services firm, Infosys has appointed Ranganath D Mavinakere as new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He will succeed Rajiv Bansal who was Executive Vice President (EVP) and the CFO of Infosys and had resigned from the company. Prior to this appointment, Mavinakere was EVP and head of strategic operations and CEO’s office of Infosys. He has rich experience of about 18 years across banking and IT services industries. In his 15-year career with Infosys, he has held several leadership positions in the company. Mavinakere worked with ICICI Limited from 1991 to 1999 where he was senior Vice President of Treasury and Planning. He holds a post graduate diploma in management (PGDM) degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and M Tech degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras.

7. Nippon Life acquires 14% more stake in RCAM for Rs. 1,196 crore
Nippon Life Insurance has signed definitive agreements to increase its stake in Reliance Capital Asset Management (RCAM), which is part of Reliance Capital.
The holding of Nippon Life Insurance, one of the largest life insurers in the world, in RCAM will be increased from 35 per cent to 49 per cent in tranches.
The Japanese company will be investing Rs. 1,196 crore to acquire additional 14 per cent stake in RCAM, in tranches to reach 49 per cent.
The boards of directors of both the companies - - Nippon Life Insurance and RCAM - - have approved the increase in stake by the Japanese partner, subject to regulatory approvals.

8. Younis Khan surpasses Miandad as Pakistan's highest Test scorer
Younis Khan surpassed the record for most runs for Pakistan in test cricket during the first match against England in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, overtaking Javed Miandad's previous mark of 8,832 runs.
The 37-year-old Younis overhauled the record in his 102nd match, taking 22 fewer than Miandad to set the mark.
