1. RUEFUL (ADJECTIVE): regretful

Synonyms: mournful, sad 

Antonyms: happy, joyful

Example Sentence:

She bobbed like a beggar woman, with a rueful face.

2. BALK (VERB): stop short

Synonyms: hesitate, recoil Antonyms: accept, face 

Example Sentence:

He says that half of it is mine, but he may balk on taking charge.

3. RUBBERY (ADJECTIVE): bouncy, flexible

Synonyms: supple, strong Antonyms: rigid, weak

Example Sentence:

Synonyms: steadfast, reliable Antonyms: disloyal, unstable 

Example Sentence:

Synonyms: attract, entice Antonyms: repel, repulse

Example Sentence:

7. CODDLE (VERB): indulge, pamper 

Synonyms: caress, nurse Antonyms: ignore, neglect

Example Sentence:

They have stopped trying to coddle me now and I live rough, like the rest.

8. PERSIFLAGE (NOUN): teasing 

Synonyms: banter, mockery Antonyms: seriousness

Example Sentence:

She was tall, beautiful, lively, gracious and learned in persiflage. 

9. BROOD (NOUN): cluster of children

Synonyms: offspring, breed Antonyms: parent, child

Example Sentence:

An uncle and his family resided in another house and his aunt and her brood in a third.

10. GLUM (ADJECTIVE): sullen

Synonyms: morose, gloomy Antonyms: cheerful, glad

Example Sentence:

Spring is a time of new beginnings, but in the years that followed, I became inward and glum as those memories took me under.
