Success Story : SBBJ Clerk, BOB PO Manipal

August 6, 2015

Dear readers,
we present to you one of our consistent readers and Career power student who has made us all very proud through his consistent hard work and efforts...hope you will enjoy his story first hand:
Not just a story of Success but my Journey from BPO to BANK: -Mukesh (SBBJ Clerk, BOB PO {Manipal})

Who am I:-
Hello readers, I'm MUKESH (a silent reader of Bankersadda) from Jaipur Rajasthan. before I start, first of all a huge heartfelt thanks to the entire Bankersadda and Career Power team for doing exemplary work and also a Big thanks to all of you friends who are maintaining the sanity of site by posting relevant comments & Information. Most of you don't know me as I don’t usually chat here, but as I've also shared my Interview experience earlier here so my Bankers adda Disqus account name is Mukesh(Kohli), May be some of you recognize me now.

What I was and How did I begin my Journey:-

One of my uncle used to work in a reputed international call center here in Jaipur and whenever we had a foreigners visits to our factory or any other nearby factory then It was only my uncle who used to have a good conversation with them Taking inspiration from him it became my childhood dream and decision to work in a BPO. So once I was done with my Graduation (BCA) I immediately joined a reputed BPO in Jaipur as a Customer care executive. I worked there for almost 2 years really enjoying work ..
Why am I sharing my silly or unnecessary incidence with you all is because I want to apprise you once again that I had only dream in my life and that too to work in a BPO, so never had any need to focus on my studies. In GK my condition was as bad as that of Alia Bhatt (sorry Alia), I didn’t even know who the president of India was. In maths,...well i was scared of Maths just like a mouse is scared of a cat. My condition was similar in all other subjects barring computer, as I had done BCA. Yes one more thing,I used to love watching movies a lot, nearly 4 in a day besides that I also liked watching motivational and Inspirational videos on Youtube along with  reading Motivational Quotes.  So one day I came to know that my parents had only one dream and that was to see their son working in a bank. So that's when I decided to quit everything ( with a simple thought,” Yaar jo Hoga vo dekha jayega, Let’s just give it a shot”) on May 5, 2014 and started my Journey to challenge this competitive world.

How exactly I did: - The footsteps (A Guide for Beginners)

I first joined a local coaching center in my area. and what I see there “Life is a race ... if you don't run fast ... you will be like a broken undaa”( from 3 Idiots) so I too became a part of this race with a simple rule   "Work on your weak Areas" !!One of my friend "Sheetal Sharma" helped me a lot in the starting days of my preparation. In a period of two months, I had learned all the basics and the structure of the exam.
And this is how I prepared for the Written exams:-

Reasoning:-

Materials: - Coaching’s study Materials, solved papers, Online ST, and Bankersadda daily Quiz. And Later when I joined Career Power (Jaipur Branch) I also added Career power’s study materials and Online ST of BA.
Study Plan: - One set of solved paper and one chapter of book every day, and once you become master in this section then ONLINE ST is enough here but never ever stop solving puzzles, puzzles are the only key or food for our locked mind, try solving hardest or toughest of the toughest puzzles.Once you become habitual to such questions then the clerical level puzzles would seem like a cake walk to you.
Note: - Learning reasoning was quite interesting for me and I soon became smart in this section.
Maths(QA):- OMG, this was one of the biggest headache for me so formed the below strategy for myself  " Work on your weak Areas" I stared to give major chunk of my time to this section and started solving one chapter daily and practiced solved papers as well. . (Later I also added Career power’s study materials and Online ST)
((Though I changed this strategy later,...continue
 reading for more))
English: - A big thanks goes to my last job for the success in this section as I had become good in spoken due to my work profile in BPO, hence understanding of concepts and grammar rules became easy for me.
((This strategy in English also changed eventually , keep reading for more))
Computer and Current Affairs (Banking): - This is one of my strongest sections and let me tell you guys just because of this section I got selected, Current Affairs with banking and Computers can be done in a very short span of time for the written exam and that too with very good accuracy, Also this is the only section which plays an Important role in the Interviews.
Written exams 5 marks are equal to 2 marks in the Interview, and during the Bank Interview HR asked Most of the Questions from “Banking, Current Affairs and Computers” so if you are good here you can win any battle whether it’s Written, Interview or GD.
Sooooo Let’s have a deep knowledge of this section.

Banking:-

What to Study:- The Structure of Banking, Money Market, Capital Market, IRDA, PFRDA, FMC, SEBI, NABARD, TRAI, RRB, RBI(Including Board of directors and Functions especially Monterey Policy), What is Bank, Primary functions of Banks( Demand Deposits and Time Deposits), Secondary Functions of Banks( Remittance, Mutual Fund, Bankassurance, Gold Banking, Gold Monetization, Locker facility, NPA, Recovery process of NPA( SARFASAI, DRT, RODA, NI ACT 138), Lead Bank, Basel, CAR/CRAR, and also go for banking glossary etc.
Note: - Without a good knowledge of Banking you can clear the written exam, but believe me you may not clear the Bank Interview. So in short to get a job you have to be smart in this section no matter what!!
How did I prepare this all: - A big thanks goes to my uncle/Guru B.L. BEWAL (My uncle has been working in a Bank for more than 35 years), I don’t know when in their guidance I become smart in this section. Moreover Career Power’s classes and Bankersadda capsule also helped me a lot in this section.
My advice to you all for this section: - First go through any general book of banking and try to get the hang of the above mentioned terms and concepts and side by side practice daily Quizes and BA Capsules this will be enough to clear the written Once you are done with the written then you can opt for any of the mock Interview Classes.
Fix GK:- Union and state Ministers, Union Minister’s Consistency, Currency and Capital, Books and Authors, Dances, Dams and Important Rivers, Thermal Power Plants, Census, Important Headquarters, Important Days, Full Forms, States Capital, CM, Governors, Bank, HQ, Tag lines, CMD, IMPORTANT hydropower dams , Atomic power plants, Important national parks, Important dances & festivals of Indian states, International head quarters & world organization, Important stock exchanges & financial institutions.
Note about Fix GK: - This is something Which Hardly ever changes, once you are done with these, then almost 10-12 marks are fixed in any Banking exam, We have a number of exams are lined up in the coming months so I’m sure this section will help you a lot, Once you have memorized this section then it will be beneficial always..
Current Affairs: - Read newspaper daily!!, Once again I will emphasise that Bankersadda's Capsule Jindabad, I made sure not to miss their daily quizes. I would strongly recommend you to google search for any topic that you do not understand as this would give you an in-depth knowledge about things and in turn create a strong base for interviews, GD and descriptive paper..
Mostly you can focus on:- Sports, Awards( Films, National , BAFTA, GRAMMY, OSCAR), Persons in news, Deaths most famous (I would say do Wiki for everything about Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, like which number Indian president he was, Born place, death place, dead while doing), popular recent only, Macro economics– Budget, Current events & affairs, Recent Modi Uncle’s visits to other countries, Recent external affairs minister & Arun jailtely & foreign secretary Jai Shankar visits to other countries, Recent India deals with other countries-( like Japan ,US, Germany, Bhutan , Nepal, Australia, Sri lanka, Seashells, Mauritius) Important President & PM elected from various countries, Important about banks like payment banks , small banks & license system, science & technology , like defense & navy , air force , missiles India & other countries recent news, Business news -- like which company largest , biggest most successful in market, top companies as per fortune .. etc or acquires, SOME state news like -- brand ambassadors, State schemes, Recent central Government schemes, Recent appointments (foreign secretary , financial secretary , RAW, IB , etc), Recent summits, MOST influential people, Richest, top companies(by times, fortune etc), latest invention & discoveries in India & world & places & miss world miss universe etc. Some beside counties news like deals -- Nepal ,Bhutan China, Pakistan ,Myanmar, important project started by Modi Uncle --Digital India , Make in India , PMJDY ,etc, recent schemes started by banks - Child accounts , pockets , Card less ATMs , Contact ATMs etc, Important Schemes by -- RBI , news of RBI , latest committees & schemes, banking terms --Repo ,Reverse Repo , SLR,  CRR etc.
Computer: - This is also one of my Strongest section (I guess it’s everyone’s strongest) as I did BCA in my graduation. So in starting days of my preparations I did not concentrate much on this section but in my IBPS Clerk Interview I was asked only 2 question from Banking section and only 1 from Current affairs and all remaining question almost 10-12 were from Computer section Those questions were really very difficult. They asked me Cryptography (Encryption or decryption), All Operating Systems and there history, E-commerce websites and there head, Good question from MS word, Ms excel, Kernel, shell etc. (Infect unlogo ne to meri keh kar le li thi, as I was from computer background). So guys if you are an engineer or from computer background then I would suggest you to go for any basic descriptive book of computer for competitive exam, that knowledge will help you to lead in Interview further. For written you can practice as many solved papers and MCQs, mostly in repeated questions comes in this section for the written.
Note:-I missed my IBPS Clerk final selection just because of bad performance in Interview by 0.6%. (Computer jo sabse strong tha usi ne le li thi) so friends don’t underestimate the power of Computer.      (Chennai Express)
List of Battles I have appeared:-
SBI PO (2014) (My First bank Exam)
IBPS RRB Officer Scale 1
IBPS RRB Assistant
RBI Assistant
SBI Associate PO
Note: - Even after studying this much, I failed over and over in the above exams and couldn't make my place in the Interview List. Actually I never failed in the sectional cut off but I was not able to reach the overall cut off. I was aware that the study plan I had made and the hard work I was doing was not sufficient to enable me to clear the written exams. But after successive failures I understood that there was something wrong with my strategy and that changed was needed,
So one day while watching the Movie "Prince of Persia The Sands of Time" I came across a dialogue that really inspired me and showed me the way, the quote was A real warrior Listens to people but obeys his conscience whichin hindi means  "ek sachcha Yodha apne har salahakar ki salaha par gaur karta h but sunta h to sirf apne dil ki" so I linked the same philosphy to my study plan. As I had mentioned above that I had stared my journey with the simple rule "Work on your weak Areas", so I was giving most of my time to maths and rules of English grammar only. However the subjects which I used to like reading or studying, subjects i.e. the subjects that made freshened me up were Current Affairs, Computer, Banking and Reasoning.
Since I was not from maths background to Muje question samj aane ke bajahe ratt jaate the, so if same pattern came in exams then only I could attempt them.
So my new strategy was “Work on your strong sections and study at least that much in your weak areas that you can clear the sectional cut off"
Hence from then on I started dedicating more study time to subjects like General awareness, Banking, computer and reasoning, I had in depth analysis of each and every question with the help of last 10 years solved papers and made the above strategy in the following three sections.
Maths(QA):-  I was weak in maths true, but still there were some sections or chapters which I was quite good at. And these sections were-
Number Series
Simplification
Quadric Equation
Probability
So with my new strategy I stopped solving theory based questions in this section and started to work on these chapters only. and I made them so strong that If I'm attempting 20 question then 20 Out of 20 will be correct and mostly out of these 5 chapters, usually 20 questions are asked in exam, and In my IBPS Clerk exam in Maths I attempted only 20 questions but  got 25 Marks. Hence accuracy plays an important role here and despite being very weak in maths I still managed to cross the marks of a person who is good at maths..
English: - In this section Grammer ke rules mein kitna bhi padlu but andar spoken itni bhar chuki thi ki ab grammer ke rules apply karna bahut muskil tha. Hence here I stared to work on my reading skills and vocabulary and focused only those sections which I could attempt without good knowledge of grammar rules. (Must read Editorial of The Hindu Newspapers)
Comprehension
Cloze Test
Re-arrangement of Sentences.
So after this new game plan, I appeared in 3 more battles:-
IBPS Clerk (Qualified) (Missed my final selection here by 0.6%)
SBI associate clerk (Qualified) (Selected, got SBBJ Bank)
BOB PO Manipal (Qualified) (WL-41 (Last year more than 300 Students Waiting list got cleared, so I’m expecting to get it clear 101%)
The Real Journey Begins: - (Towards Successss)
April 1st 2015, the worst day of my life as IBPS has announced the final list of IBPS Clerk and PO candidates and my Name was not there. I could see the tears and pain in my parents eyes and I too was broken completely  but I did not shed my tears and by the same evening I had decided to go back to the BPO and even ready with my whole document for the very next day for the Interview in a BPO. But that night I got a call from my best friend ANULIKA, LEKHRAJ and ANAND they motivated me a lot to fight back.
So I decided to give just one more year to myself or to my parents dream. So on the very next day I visited the Career Power (Jaipur Branch) and took admission there, and started my classes from the April 3rd 2015 only. I also had a word with the HOD of Career Power (Garima ma’am) to allow me to study the whole day there from Morning 9 to 6. Permission was Granted. And I told to each of my friend that I had again started working in theBPO and used to keep my device switched off the whole day. The next target in front of me was BOB PO MANIPAL written exam which was scheduled on April 18th 2015. I had with me exact 15 days. I used to study whole day in Career power itself and while solving papers if I came aross any doubt then instead of putting that on hold I used to confirm at the very same momement with the faculty members. So I had the source with me to clear all of my doubts. All I needed was to study as much as I could, and thats what I really truly did. I on somedays din’t even take my lunch, thats how much passionate and crazy I had got abut my studies at that moment. After coming back from classes, at  home I used to solve papers and focus on Online ST .I had even mugged up the BA Capsule for Baroda Manipal more than 5 times in just 15 days.
Finally the day arrived, It was April 18th 2015, Truly it was not me, It was GOD Ji who wrote the paper on my behalf, I had attempted very less only 112 but I was quite sure that I would make it to the Interview and I that did!!!
Now Miracle started to happen with me, before BOB Manipal announced their written exam result, SBI Associate Bank announced their written exam result and I GOT SELECTED and was called for the Interview and soon BOB Manipal also announced their written exam result and I was Selected there as well. So now I had 2 interviews back to back and this time I didn’t want to repeat my past mistakes, This time I didn’t want to leave anything on luck. I went through more than 500 Interview experience Reviews and prepared accordingly.
This time I left nothing, I search everything, every expected question, The meaning of my name, synonyms of my name, related person of my name like Mukesh Ambani or Mukesh Kumar (Singer), I prepared every expected HR Question like About myself, my hobbies, my parents work, my family, Why I want to Join bank, About Rural posting, my town SANGANER, JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN. I left nothing in banking as mention above I repeated my banking syllabus this time more than 7 times, my eyes used to water because of studying so much and used to hurt me a lot to the extent that I couldn’t tolerate the pain and my eyes used to ask me to take a deep sleep, but my dreams didn’t   allow me to sleep, still there was a lot to be covered. I went through 3 books of descriptive computer knowledge, I went through all MS OFFICE this time, I practiced MS WORD, EXCEL everything. I searched number of Interview question related to computers this time which could be asked in a Bank Interview, I left nothing from my end I searched every possible thing, I went through the last 6 months Current affairs, also went through various capsules from different  websites. And over the internet when I used to search something, from there I used to get one another link... Hence this time I was going deeper and deeper in each scenario. And I continued this trend till one day prior to the day of the interview. I gave myself one day rest before facing  final battle(Interview or GD) this time I was full of Knowledge, In Interview one thing which you need is confidence and Knowledge brings confidence. I entered into the Interview Room, Like was the CEO of the Bank, Did my best, Answered confidently, answered most of the questions asked, this time even they appreciated me for my good knowledge. What happened next is  known to all...i got selected finally!!!.
Finally for the thing I did this all- happiness in the eyes of my parents, I still remember those moments when I said to my dad that I had got selected In SBBJ. I could not express how happy my dad was. Their eyes were full of tears and my mom started crying and really this time I too got the tears in my eyes.
This all was not possible without the help of MY PARENTS, My Guru B.L. BEWAL, AUNLIKA, LEKHRAJ, BABLU, ANAND, RAHUL AND RAJEST and no doubt BANKERSADDA AND CAREER POWER also played an important role in my SUCCESS.
Thank you so much to give your precious time to my journey, I wish you all the best for your success. And one thing which I even mentioned over social media after finishing with my blog is “Whatever you think with Strong feelings becomes Reality”, So start enjoying your success, Start Dreaming,  because If you can DREAM IT, YOU CAN MAKE IT.   And “DO OR DIE” is old fashion now, “DO IT BEFORE YOU DIE” Is the new one.
And at last I would say “Dear Readers, Padai esi karna ki jis din written exam do, bus Usi din Final Selection ho jay”.
