National Affairs
  • Kerala government is going to set up the country’s first elephant hospital.
    • The hospital will be set up on a five-acre plot in the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy.
    • It is expected to cost Rs.10 crore.
  • The Home Ministry has struck down an Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s proposal for giving security clearance to 33 television channels of Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV Network, a move that could lead to cancellation of their broadcasting licence.
    • The Maran brothers are facing a CBI probe over alleged allotment of 300 high-speed BSNL telephone lines to the residence of former Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran in Chennai which were extended to his brother’s channel.

Science & Technology
  • Mangalyaan‬, the country's low-cost Mars mission,  will enter the blackout phase snapping communication with the satellite.
    • From June 8 to 22, the sun will block Mars from the earth snapping communication with the satellite.
    • Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) during this period will go into an "autonomous mode" and will take its decisions.
    • This will be for the first time that there will be a communication break for such a long period of about 15 days.
    • The ISRO spacecraft was launched on its nine-month-long odyssey on a homegrown PSLV rocket from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on November 5, 2013 and had escaped the earth's gravitational field on December 1, 2013.

Business & Economy
  • The finance ministry has imposed anti-dumping duty for certain stainless steel products imported from China, Malaysia and South Korea, which marks the first decisive move to stem the inflow of such products amid a hue and cry by the domestic steel industry battling sluggish market sentiments and strained margins.
Deaths
  • Former bureaucrat Mahesh N. Buch (M N Buch), who was widely regarded as the architect of modern Bhopal passed away.

Awards & Honors

  • Bangladesh today conferred its prestigious liberation war honour on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his “active role” in its independence struggle and consolidating friendship with India.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi received this award on his behalf of Vajpayee.

  • Asian Athletics championships 2015
    • Lalita Babar bagged a gold in 3000m steeplechase with a national record shattering effort.
    • Indian Discuss thrower Vikas Gowda has clinched the Gold with a throw of 62.03m.
  • Barcelona‬ claims Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League trophy 2015 by beating Juventus.
    • This is for the 5th time Barcelona claimed this trophy.
