- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today conferred the prestigious Jnanpith award (for the year 2014) on eminent Marathi litterateur Bhalchandra Nemade.

- Jnanpith Award is the highest literary honor in India.
- Mr Nemade is the 50th recipient of the award.
- Nemde's 1963 novel Kosala (Cocoon) changed the dimensions of Marathi novel.
- Nemade is the fourth Marathi writer to win the literary honour after VS Khandekar in 1974, VV Shirwadkar alias Kusumagraj in 1988, and Govind Karandikar alias Vinda Karandikar in 2003.
- Assam has been awarded as the Best e-Panchayat state
