Macedonia today signed an accord to join NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). With this Macedonia becomes the 30th member of the US-led alliance.
Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg today signed an accession agreement at a ceremony held at NATO headquarters. Each NATO member state now needs to ratify the accession deal.
Last month the Greek parliament backed a deal ending a 27-year row over its northern neighbour's name. They approved the name Republic of North Macedonia. Greece had blocked Macedonia's membership saying the name implied territorial ambitions.
