State Formation Day of the Seven Indian States


November 1, marks the foundation day of seven Indian states namely Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. These seven states were founded on November 1 in different years, making the date a special one considering that seven states celebrate their foundation day on November 1.

Let's have a brief look at these seven states.

1.Karnataka:

The day is marked by Kannada Rajyotsava, known for its vibrancy, as the red and yellow flags of Karnataka are displayed at various places across the whole state. Karnataka is a state in the south western region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to the Carnatic region. The capital and largest city is Bangalore (Bengaluru).

2.Kerala:

November 1 is celebrated as 'Kerala Piravi Dinam' in the state. Before India achieved independence in 1947, Kerala existed in the form of three independent provinces- Malabar, Cochin and Travancore. These major parts were brought together to form the state of Kerala which will be celebrating its 63rd foundation day today, on November 1, 2018.

3.Chhattisgarh:

The state of Chhattisgarh was carved out of the state of Madhya Pradesh on Nov 1, 2000. It is the tenth largest state of India, has an area of 135,194 km square and a population of 25.5 million. One of the fastest-developing states, Chhattisgarh comprises of 27 districts and 5 divisions- Bastar, Bilaspur, Durg, Raipur and Surguja. Chhattisgarhi, a dialect of Hindi language, is spoken and understood by the majority of people in the state.

4.Haryana:

Haryana celebrates its Formation Day on November 1. It was carved out of the former state of East Punjab on Nov 1, 1966.  Chandigarh is the capital, Faridabad in National Capital Region is the most populous city of the state and the Gurugram is the financial hub of NCR with major Fortune 500 companies located in it.Haryana proved to be a boon for India as it led the Green Revolution movement in terms of crop output.Haryana will be celebrating the 52nd anniversary of its formation day.

5.Punjab:
On November 1, Punjab celebrates its Formation Day.The Punjabi Suba movement was one of the key events in the formation of Punjab in the erstwhile East Punjab state of India in the 1950s. The movement, led by the Akali Dal, resulted in the formation of the Punjabi-majority Punjab state, the Haryanvi-Hindi-majority Haryana state and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.The state covers an area of 50,362 square kilometres, 1.53% of India's total geographical area. It is the 20th-largest Indian state by area.

6.Rajasthan:
Rajasthan is a state in the north western region of India. The state covers 10.4 percent of the total geographical area of India. It is the largest Indian state by area and the seventh largest by population. Rajasthan was reorganised on November 1, 1956.It comprises most of the wide and inhospitable Thar Desert also known as the "Rajasthan Desert" and "Great Indian Desert" and shares a border with the Pakistani provinces of Punjab to the northwest and Sindh to the west, along the Sutlej-Indus river valley.

7.Madhya Pradesh:
Madhya Pradesh, the second largest state in the country by area and sixth-largest in terms of population, was formed on Nov 1, 1956.It is the second largest state in India in terms of area and has the sixth-largest population among Indian states. Madhya Pradesh will be celebrating its 63rd Foundation Day today, November 1, 2018.
