Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "No show: on J&K local polls"
- No show - a person who is expected but does not arrive
- Turnout - the number of people who come to an event
- Valley - a low area of land between mountains or hills, usually with a river flowing through it
- Wake-up call - a bad experience that warns someone to change something, usually the way that they behave
- Verdict - an opinion that you have or a decision that you make
- Electorate - all the people who are allowed to vote in an election
- Boycott - to not take part in an event
- Protest - a strong complaint or disagreement
- Resident - someone who lives in a particular place
- Privilege - a special benefit that is available only to a particular person or group
- Confer - to give something such as authority, a legal right, or an honour to someone
- Mobilisation - to start to use all the money, support etc that is available in order to achieve something
- Resonance - an emotional effect produced by something that reminds you of something else
- Viable - able to be done, or worth doing
- Undermine - to make something or someone become gradually less effective, confident, or successful
- Victor - the winner of a competition or battle
- Dismal - very bad
- Fraught - very worried and with a lot of problems
- Collapse - to suddenly fail or stop existing
- Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
- Fray - a fight or argument, esp. one in which several people take part
- Alienation - the process of making someone dislike you, or not want to help or support you
- Reversal - a change in something, so that it becomes the opposite of what it was
- Significantly - by a large amount, or in a way that is easily noticeable
- Intense -very great or extreme
- Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
- Separatist - a member of a group of people who want to be independent of a national, religious, or other group to which they belong
- Democracy - a system of government in which people vote in elections to choose the people who will govern them
- Address - to give attention to or to deal with a matter or problem
- Civic - relating to a town or city, especially to its government and public activities
- Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
- Substantive - important or serious, or referring to the most important or serious issues
- Violation - an action that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
- Inability - the fact of not being able to do something
- Coherent - a coherent statement is reasonable and sensible
- Unrest - angry or violent behaviour by people who are protesting against something
- Subsequent - happening or coming after something else
- Imposition - the introduction of something such as a new law or a new system
- Exacerbate - to make a problem become worse
- Interlocutor - someone who takes part in talks as a representative of another person or organization
- Dialogue - a process in which two people or groups have discussions in order to solve problems
- Misgiving - a feeling of fear or doubt about whether something is right or will have a good result
- Double down - increase one's efforts or focus
- Forge - to work hard to achieve something
- Core - the most important or most basic part of something
- Constituency - the voters in a division of a country who elect a representative to parliament
- Fallout - the unpleasant effects of something that has happened

- Manifest - to show something such as a feeling or ability, so that it is easy to notice
- Symptom - a sign that someone has an illness
- Diagnose - to find out what physical or mental problem someone has by examining them
- Neurology - the study of your nervous system and the diseases that affect it
- Complication - something that makes a medical condition more dangerous or difficult to treat
- Antibody - a substance that your body produces in your blood to fight illnesses and infections
- Epidemic - a situation in which a disease spreads very quickly and infects many people
- Contract - to become infected with a disease
- Prevalent - very common in a particular place or among a particular group
- Spurt - a sudden increase in something, for example speed or development
- Severe - a severe problem is very serious and worrying
- Microcephaly - a condition in which a baby is born with a very small head, and often incomplete brain development
- Monitor - to regularly check something or watch someone in order to find out what is happening
- Cure - a medicine or treatment that makes someone who is ill become healthy
- Intent - the intention to do something
- Imminent - likely or certain to happen very soon
- Onset - the beginning of something, especially something bad
- Coast - an area of land beside a sea
- Conducive - creating a situation that helps something to happen
- Multiply - to increase by a large amount
