- Today is World Diabetes Day.

- This day was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world.
- Theme of World Diabetes Day 2017 : "Women and diabetes - our right to a healthy future."
- As many as 23 EU nations today signed the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) agreement.

- Aim of this Agreement : To boost defence cooperation among member states.
- This agreement legally binds nations to participate in joint projects as well as to increase defence spending and contribute to rapid deployments.
- 128th birth anniversary of 1st Prime Minister of the country Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru is being observed as Children's Day today.
- The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development is going to celebrate Child Rights Week (Hausla 2017) from 16th to 20th November, 2017.

- Note : The period between National Children’s Day (14 November) and International Child Rights Day (20 November) is observed as Child Rights Week.
- Andhra Pradesh state government is hosting its first Hot Air Balloon Festival in Araku Valley.
- President Ram Nath Kovind today inaugurated the 37th India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.
- The Indian Railways has launched Project Saksham, India’s largest time-bound “upskilling” exercise for its employees to boost their efficiency.

- Project Saksham aims to upgrade the skillsets of 13 lakh-strong workforce of Indian Railways with a single drive spanning nine months.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- India will overtake Japan in nominal GDP by 2028 to emerge as the World's Third-largest Economy, according to a report by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the corporate and investment banking division of Bank of America.
- Nepal today scrapped the Budhi Gandaki hydropower project with a Chinese firm.

- The 1,200-MW project was cancelled over irregularities and lack of transparency, Thapa added. The project was estimated to cost over ₹16,000 crore.
Science & Technology
- India's first wave-powered navigationalBuoy (an anchored float serving as a navigation mark) to guide ships in and out of harbours was launched in Chennai.

- Note : While conventional buoys are solar-powered, this one would harness energy from waves to power its beacon.
- Asgardia, the first-ever country planned to be floated into space, has successfully launched its maiden satellite from a NASA site.

- The satellite contains data uploaded by over 1.16 lakh registered "Asgardians", which makes the "space nation" rank 174 in terms of population.
- Global carbon emissions will touch a record high of 37 billion tonnes, an analysis by the Global Carbon Project has revealed.
Sports Current Affairs
- Two-time Olympic medalist, Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar, is set to make a comeback by taking part in the upcoming National Wrestling Championship.

- Kumar, who will represent Railways, was last seen in action at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where he finished with a gold medal.
- Pakistani cricketer Saeed Ajmal announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket at the end of the ongoing National T20 Cup.

- He made his Test debut at the age of 31 and picked 178 wickets, the second-most for bowlers who made their debut after 30.
- He picked 184 and 85 wickets in 113 ODIs and 64 T20Is respectively.
