- This day was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement a coalition of nations kindness NGOs, aiming for more kindness in the world.
- This day encourages individuals to overlook boundaries, race and religion.
- 31st ASEAN Summit gets underway this morning in the Philippines capital Manila.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald J. Trump held bilateral talks on the sidelines of this summit.
- The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit was held in Da Nang, Vietnam.

- Leaders of 21 Pacific Rim countries attended this meeting.
- It marks the second time Vietnam was playing host to the APEC, having hosted the event previously in 2006.
- Next year’s APEC summit will be held in Papua New Guinea.
- Theme of APEC Vietnam 2017 : ‘Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future’.

- Amazon has shut down its online product discovery platform, Junglee.

Science & Technology
- The Centre today started its final phase of BharatNet project, to provide high-speed broadband and WiFi in all panchayats by March 2019.

- The project is aimed at connecting 1.5 lakh panchayats through 10 lakh kilometres of additional optical fibre.
- Haryana became India’s first state to treat Hepatitis-C patients of all categories through oral medicine.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Philippines to attend the India-ASEAN summit, inaugurated the 'Shri Narendra Modi Resilient Rice Field Laboratory' at Los Bano.
Awards & Honors
- Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj bagged the Indian Sportswoman of the Year (Team Sports) award at the Indian Sports Honours (ISH) event held in Mumbai.

- Mithali-led Indian team, which ended as runners-up in the World Cup, won the Team of the Year award.

- Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel won the Brazilian Grand Prix.
- Spain's Rafael Nadal was presented with ATP World No. 1 award, as he became the oldest player to finish as year-end world number one in ATP rankings history.
- Spanish racer Marc Márquez became the youngest four-time MotoGP world champion after clinching his fourth MotoGP world title in five years at the season-concluding Valencia Grand Prix today.
- Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore released India Youth Development Index and Report 2017 in New Delhi.
